Ms. Gilbert, senior principal for socioeconomic and human rights at Exxon Mobile Corporation, has been instrumental in her role. As an industry subject matter expert, she is tasked with developing global strategies and policies regarding social responsibility, human rights, and social and environmental performance in the global oil and gas and energy industry.
Initially hired as Exxon’s environmental and regulatory advisor in 2009, Ms. Gilbert continually progressed, earning the roles of socioecological management lead in 2012, environmental, regulatory and socioeconomic advisor in 2012, and reporting and stewardship supervisor for safety, security, health and environment in 2015. In 2017, she served as a principal before acquiring her present position in 2021.
Before joining the Texas-based multinational oil and gas corporation, Ms. Gilbert served with the U.S. Army between 2002 and 2009, beginning in Germany, where she rose to become a strategic analyst for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command Europe Region, then as a management analyst at the U.S. Army Installation Management Command headquarters from 2008 to 2009. Earlier, Ms. Gilbert worked as a clinical research associate at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, between 2000 and 2002 and as a pesticide toxicologist at the National Pesticide Information Center of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Corvallis, Oregon, from 1999 to 2000.
Highly educated in her field, Ms. Gilbert received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Oregon State University in 1998 and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2007. Her education has been pivotal to her career success.
In addition to her education, Ms. Gilbert remains active in her field as a member of the Society of Women Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. She is also a member and chair of Ipieca, a global oil and gas association headed in London. Civically, Ms. Gilbert enjoys giving back her time with Klein Independent School District as an Exxon Mobile corporation science ambassador since 2014 and campus volunteer since 2016, as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America since 2019, as a band ambassador fundraising coordinator for Klein High School as a proud band parent since 2024, and unit auxiliary staff member for the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps since 2024, supporting the Houston division sea cadet program for ages 10-17.
In 2014, Ms. Gilbert was recognized as the co-author of “Acquiring and Maintaining Social License to Operate During the Lifecycle of Major Oil and Gas Operations.” This recognition testifies to her knowledge and expertise in this area of the field.
In light of her success, Ms. Gilbert received an Advanced Skill Milestone from Exxon Mobil Corporation in 2015 and a Volunteer Award from the Texas Military Department in 2017. She attributes her success to her upbringing, frequent relocation and dedication to continuous learning.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Gilbert intends to retire within the next decade. However, she aims to continue achieving various career milestones that will drive progress within Exxon Mobile Corporation, including acquiring a position that will continue influencing positive change and expanding the corporation’s reach.
