With two and a half decades of experience, Ms. Dela Cruz has established a successful career in consulting services, specializing in energy, policy, nonprofit work, crisis communication, strategic planning, and campaigns. Since 2021, she has excelled as a principal and independent business owner of DDC Consulting. Her prior roles include senior vice president and vice president of communications at Strategies 360, Inc. from 2018 to 2021, director of communications for the Hawaii State Department of Education from 2012 to 2018, deputy director of communications for the State of Hawaii from 2010 to 2012, director of public affairs at Bishop Museum from 2008 to 2010, and press secretary for U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka from 2004 to 2007.
Laying an educational foundation, Ms. Dela Cruz earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a master’s degree in national security policy studies from the Naval Postgraduate School. She dedicates her time to numerous organizations, including the American Council for Young Political Leaders, the executive board of the University of Hawaii Alumni, Child & Family Service, RISEHI, and Affordable Housing initiatives. Additionally, she volunteers for her high school alma mater’s educational foundation and engages in pro bono work to promote and protect Hawaii’s cultural heritage.
Ms. Dela Cruz considers her greatest accomplishment to be empowering others by providing resources that foster positive change. While she began her career in front of the camera, her true passion lies behind the scenes, focusing on advocacy and innovative messaging that enhances community livelihoods. She attributes her success to mentors, those who believed in her, and her family’s influence, including her younger sister and father, who inspire her daily. Looking to the future, she is committed to fostering connections and reducing tensions surrounding the sharing of information. She is passionate about mentoring others, promoting growth, and helping local residents remain in Hawaii despite high living costs, aiming to keep families together and preserve the community’s integrity.
