In his role since joining the team in 2016, he has been instrumental in overseeing upgrades to information technology infrastructure, order management efficiencies and the implementation of a global marketing effort. Mr. Sorrentino is respected for his knowledge and expertise, leveraging an extensive background in trading and developing futures trading systems for over three decades.
Founded by William Eckhardt, a commodities and futures trader and fund manager, and the firm’s chief research scientist, ETC is recognized as a foremost alternative investment management firm. Since 1991, the company has specialized in trading global financial futures and commodities. For more than a decade, the leadership and research teams have collaborated to continue innovating on trading and risk management concepts. A respected and award-winning organization, ETC has been lauded as a reputable brand for its expertise and product offering. Among numerous accolades, ETC received CTA and Discretionary Trader Awards in 2023.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Sorrentino became an entrepreneur when he launched his first company, Roberts and Matthews Limited. The rapidly growing startup became highly successful as a gift-giving service. He eventually sold it and used the proceeds to pursue opportunities at the Chicago Board of Trade. From there, Mr. Sorrentino founded Sorrentino Asset Management Inc., which he led as the president for over 30 years. Established in 1992, he had locations in Roanoke, Virginia, and Naples, Florida, where he maintained his business until 2024.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Sorrentino received a Bachelor of Science from DePaul University in Chicago and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Loyola University Chicago. Following college, he chose not to pursue a career in law. Instead, his journey took him on a path in trading, where he has been remarkably successful. Highly qualified in his industry, Mr. Sorrentino is registered by the National Futures Association in various areas and registered by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Active in various charitable and community initiatives, Mr. Sorrentino was most notably instrumental in assisting the founders of the Royal Palm Academy in the 1990s, a catholic school in Naples that serves students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Now recognized as a sought-after institution, the school continues to flourish decades later.
Grateful for a long and successful career, Mr. Sorrentino has had the opportunity to help several hedge fund companies grow by building strong teams, including ETC. His goals today include completing the expansion of ETC and the launch of the mutual fund, which began in October 2024 and is now available to the public.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Sorrentino intends to become more engaged with several new phases of charitable projects, including those in the educational arena. His goal is to assist with fundraising events so they can become thriving schools. His passion for helping educational institutions stems from his childhood when he recognized the importance of hard work and what it takes to become successful.
