Mr. McKenzie, a leader in aerospace and aviation, joined Atlas Air Inc. in 2023 as a senior director of flight operations. In his role, he is tasked with managing safety and regulatory compliance for the global carrier. Based in White Plains, New York, Atlas Air Inc. is a major American cargo airline, passenger charter airline and aircraft lessor. Before joining his organization, Mr. McKenzie held various roles, including for Southern Air as a B737 fleet captain and instructor and Chautauqua Airlines Inc. and Custom Air Transport as a first officer, dating back to 2003.
In preparation for his career, Mr. McKenzie attended the Pan Am International Flight Academy. He is also active in his field as an Airlines for America ops council member. He attributes his success to his passion for the industry. He notably began his piloting career flying small aircraft. He later had the opportunity to work in an office on various projects, ultimately rising through the ranks as a pilot and captain. When Southern Air and Atlas merged, he was selected as the senior director of flight operations.
Mr. McKenzie has several notable achievements in his industry. When he began his career, his goal was to fly the 747 before retiring. However, he achieved that lofty milestone at just 23. Mr. McKenzie’s most significant milestone has been becoming the captain of a 747. Grateful for his current assignment as the senior director of operations for a major 121 airline, he looks forward to gaining additional experience and expanding his network in the industry.
