In addition to reporting monthly activities and preparing financial statements and technical accounting analysis memos, he collects data from various teams and analyzes and discusses financial reports, among other obligations. His expertise in technical accounting has been pivotal to his success.
Before joining his company, Mr. Choy spent several years at Ernst & Young (EY), beginning as an assurance staff member in 2020 and then as an assurance senior from 2022 to 2023. Before earning his college degrees, he was an audit intern at Farber Hass Hurley LLP in 2019 and an accounting and information systems designer at Lovette Properties in 2018. He also worked for Five-Star Sports between 2015 and 2017 as an assistant basketball coach, junior bookkeeper and logistics manager.
In preparation for a bright future, Mr. Choy graduated from The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, California, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting and management information systems and a Bachelor of Science in computer science with an emphasis in information systems in 2020. While working toward his degrees, Mr. Choy was active on campus as a student government council member, international student leader and wing assistant. Subsequently, he received credentials as a certified public accountant through the California Board of Accountancy in 2022, making him highly qualified in his field.
Beyond his education, Mr. Choy remains at the forefront of accounting through his membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also been active in his community, supporting various causes and initiatives. Mr. Choy has taught as a Sunday school teacher at Grace Community and was an assistant basketball coach for the Sunshine Academy.
In light of his professional success, Mr. Choy received the John F. Forbes Award from CalCPA and the Elijah Watt Sells Award from the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants in 2021. While in college, The Master’s University recognized him as a Distinguished Scholar in 2016 and was included on the President’s List in 2017. Besides his accolades, Mr. Choy notes his most significant accomplishment at EY, where he served as a lead senior on his team while working with a newly public company.
Reflecting on his profession, Mr. Choy notes that his parents and brother taught him the value of hard work, discipline, faith and putting other needs ahead of his own. Beyond their contributions, he is grateful to several of his peers and former professors for their guidance and for teaching him how to network with people of diverse personalities.
In the coming years, Mr. Choy anticipates future growth as a leader. He intends to improve his listening skills while learning to collaborate with his team more effectively to draw more significant results. Moreover, Mr. Choy hopes to make a broader impact within his company, helping guide The Guitar Center Company as it reaches new heights and develops better operational success.
