Mr. Giess, director of laboratory services at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been instrumental in his role since 2024. Leveraging over 25 years of former success in the industry, he serves as an administrative leader for all laboratory services, is responsible for staffing, monitoring quality metrics, meeting budget goals, overseeing a team of leaders that oversee each section within the laboratory, and collaborating with the medical director and physician partner. Beginning his career in 1999 as a clinical setup supervisor at Quest Diagnostics in Hays, Kansas, Mr. Giess has come a long way, earning roles as a medical technologist at the Medical Center of Aurora, and as a medical technologist, quality assurance and quality control technical specialist for transfusion medicine, assistant director of pathology, and director of business operations and support services at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Becoming highly educated in support of his career, Mr. Giess received a bachelor’s degree in computer systems networking and telecommunications from Fort Hays State University in 2003, a Bachelor of Science in clinical laboratory science and medical technology from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2008, and a Master of Business Administration in management from Temple University in 2013. He also received credentials as a medical laboratory scientist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology in 2008. Beyond his education, Mr. Giess has remained relevant in his industry through his membership in the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Civically, he engages in and supports various fundraising events on behalf of various nonprofits and the Texas Children’s Hospital.
Throughout his career, Mr. Giess recalls various notable accomplishments, including opening two hospitals with Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands, where he served as the laboratory director, and a second in Austin. He has also received several accolades for his work, such as the Pathology Improvement Award from the Texas Children’s Hospital pathology department in 2013 and 2014. Mr. Giess attributes his success to several remarkable mentors, leaders, partners and teams he has worked with over the years. Excited about future opportunities, he intends to continue expanding his leadership skills while mentoring the next generation of leaders.
