Excelling in his career for more than 30 years, Mr. Kobold has served as the executive director of the California Product Stewardship Council since 2018. Prior to that, Mr. Kobold held positions as an engineer at Edgar & Associates, a solid waste operations manager for Yolo County, and an assistant civil engineer for Yolo County. His career began in 1992 as a junior civil engineer for Yolo County. In his current role with the California Product Stewardship Council, Mr. Kobold oversees the entire organization, including making sure the policies endorsed by the board are carried out. He also plays a key part in maintaining the council’s revenue stream.
Mr. Kobold’s performance in his field was born of his academic journey. He earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Chico State in 1992. Since then, Mr. Kobold has further cemented his credentials with a number of certifications. He has trained in managing integrated solid waste management systems, managing collection systems, and managing landfill operations, all in association with the Solid Waste Association of North America. Beyond his primary vocation, Mr. Kobold contributes as an advisory board member and vice chair for the California Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packing Producer Responsibility Program, and on the illegal dumping technical advisory board for CalRecycle. He credits his success to an unending determination to continue learning and growing within his industry, as well as the support of his supervisors throughout his career.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Kobold is a loving husband and father to three children. When he’s not working, he enjoys taking on construction projects at home, as well as playing and coaching soccer through the Davis Senior Soccer League. Looking to the future, Mr. Kobold hopes to have a positive impact on the wider consumer goods manufacturing industry. In particular, he hopes to encourage the creation of better end-of-life solutions for various products, emphasizing items designed to be reusable, repairable and recyclable. Drawing on his experiences in landfill management, Mr. Kobold intends to advocate for smarter processes that reduce the need for landfills altogether, leading to a more sustainable future.
