As part of her daily routine, she serves as a spokesperson for the business, working closely with colleagues who specialize in various areas of the business. Beginning her remarkable career as a program director for the Agency for Health Care Administration in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994, Dr. Buckey then became a utilization management specialist for the Department of Children and Family Services in Orlando, Florida, from 1996 to 1998. She then pivoted to higher education, teaching as an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida in Orlando between 2008 and 2013 and as an adjunct professor in the college of health professionals and sciences from 2021 to 2024. Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Buckey holds a Master of Social Work and Doctor of Philosophy in social work from Florida State University since 1996 and 2007, respectively. She also holds credentials through the Academy of Certified Social Workers, making her highly qualified in her field.
While working in social work, Dr. Buckey became affiliated with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), where she has remained active since 1996 and served as chair of its health specialty committee from 2019 to 2023. She also contributed numerous articles to professional journals as a co-author, covering topics such as case management, the LGBT population and other relevant subjects. Civically, Dr. Buckey supports a local domestic violence shelter in Seminole County, teaches a course on domestic violence to honor domestic violence victims’ resilience and recovery, and donates used phones to sheriff’s departments, where they are refurbished and provided to domestic violence victims, ensuring they have access to critical communication for their safety and well-being. Dr. Buckey’s success has earned her recognition as Social Work Educator of the Year by the Volusia-Flagler chapter of the NASW. She credits her upbringing on a farm in Georgia and the support she received from her parents for much of her success.
