Richard R. Preston, president of Enterprise Aviation Services LLC (d/b/a Del Sol Aviation), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aviation and training.
Mr. Preston has dedicated over six decades to business strategy and operations, establishing himself as a prominent figure in aviation and industrial management. As the president of Enterprise Aviation Services LLC (d/b/a Del Sol Aviation) since 2009, he has been instrumental in developing strategic planning and partnerships with various organizations, including the United States Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Co-founded with Mr. Preston’s son, Enterprise Aviation Services LLC/Del Sol Aviation is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and specializes in aviation training and flight school services, primarily catering to law enforcement officers throughout New Mexico. Under his leadership, the company has trained over 3,000 pilots for drone operations and commercial airlines. The company also provides basic and advanced flight training from recreational flying to those pursuing careers in the commercial sector by licensed flight instructors.
Before founding Enterprise Aviation Services, Mr. Preston contributed significantly to the F-35 Conceptual Design for Global Logistics Software Development as a team member from 2004 to 2005. Between 1984 and 2001, he was the business and logistics systems engineering director at BDM Engineering Services Corporation. Concurrently, Mr. Preston excelled as the enterprise and product systems director at Northrop Grumman from 1984 to 2000. Earlier in his career, he managed program analysis for the B-2 Bomber Design and Production Support Systems between 1984 and 1986 and was a quality assurance officer at Airborne Laser Laboratory from 1974 to 1979.
Mr. Preston’s military service included a tenure as a special projects officer in aviation research and development with the U.S. Air Force from 1974 to 1984. During this period, he managed the Aviation Factory of the Future Program and was an aircraft electrician for 10 years. Mr. Preston’s work on developing databases for artificial intelligence applications in design concepts significantly contributed to cost-effectiveness in military projects.
Becoming highly educated in support of his career, Mr. Preston received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1974 and a Master of Arts in industrial management from Central Michigan University in 1976. He previously completed technical training at the Aircraft & Missile Electrical Systems Repair Technical School with the U.S. Air Force in 1962.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Preston is actively involved with civic organizations, such as Billy Graham and Goodwill Industries International, by generously contributing to their cause.
Throughout his career, Mr. Preston has received numerous accolades. His flight school received top-performing honors from Women of Aviation Worldwide in 2015 and 2017, and he was featured on the front cover of Aerospace and Defense Review as having the most successful flight school in the U.S. in 2024. That same year, Mr. Preston was recognized by Albuquerque: The Magazine as an expert in his field. Additionally, he was awarded multiple showcase awards for his exemplary applications of factory concepts and significant cost savings initiatives. Mr. Preston attributes much of his success to developing methodologies for creating factories of the future, which became a turning point in his career.
Looking ahead, Mr. Preston plans to retire while focusing on helping his son build their business to continue thriving under new leadership. His lifelong ambition has been to contribute to the advancement of humanity, a driving force that continues to inspire his endeavors today.
