Colonel Karen “Gigi” Wrancher, Vice President, Senior Audit Manager, Information Technology Audit at PNC Financial Services Group Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in finance.

Ms. Wrancher has cultivated over two decades of multifaceted experience as a U.S. Army veteran, business management expert and civic-minded citizen. After retiring from the U.S. Army at the rank of colonel in 2020, she entered the financial services sector as a senior lead audit manager at Wells Fargo. She worked with the company for three years, utilizing the organizational leadership and operational compliance skills she developed in the military. Since 2024, she has served as the vice president, senior audit manager, information technology audit at The PNC Financial Services Group Inc.

In her current role, Ms. Wrancher is instrumental in developing and managing a risk-based audit plan for PNC Financial Services Group, which includes information technology (IT) infrastructure audits, risk mitigation and communication with key stakeholders across the organization. As a proven leader and people manager, she prioritizes building teams with a broad range of perspectives. Likewise, she actively supports employees in developing their strengths and pursuing their professional goals through coaching, mentorship and participation in four employee business resource groups.

Adjacent to her primary professional pursuits, Ms. Wrancher remains active in philanthropy, having notably acted as the vice chair of public policy and advocacy for the Junior League of Charlotte since 2023. She maintains a sincere passion for her work with the organization and aims to expand its reach further in the coming years by creating a coalition of North Carolina chapters, which she hopes will work together on children’s mental health and educational advocacy projects.

Ms. Wrancher’s dedication to community service has spanned the length of her career. She previously served as a vice president of communications for The Rocks Inc. from 2016 to 2022. Furthermore, she held numerous leadership roles in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated between 2007 and 2015.

Ms. Wrancher originally joined the U.S. Army as a private first class and a paralegal in the 82nd Airborne Division in 1990. She quickly advanced to the rank of sergeant and then earned her commission as a quartermaster officer upon completion of Officer Candidate School in 1993. Her formative roles include being a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division, a company commander with the 1st Infantry Division, and a joint chiefs of staff intern at the Pentagon. She continued to steadily advance in her career as a support operations officer in 2007 and then as an executive officer. By 2009, Ms. Wrancher had become a regional operations executive for the Defense Logistics Agency, where she served for two years. In 2011, she was stationed at Fort Bliss as a battalion commander and logistics executive, and in 2013, she was the first female chief of staff to the quartermaster general at Fort Lee, Virginia.

As she rose through the leadership ranks in the military, Ms. Wrancher’s expertise became invaluable for strategic operations both domestically and internationally. To wit, she was deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in 2015 as a command inspector general, returning the following year to accept a role at the Pentagon. Between 2016 and 2018, she excelled as an operations manager, serving as the chief of preliminary investigations of senior officials for the U.S. Army Inspector General Agency. Afterward, she spent another two years as the chief of the assistance division, based out of Washington, D.C.

At the onset of her vocational journey, Ms. Wrancher pursued a formal education, attending Methodist University and earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government in 1995. She subsequently continued her studies with the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Master of Arts in human resources management and services in 2002. During her time in the military, Ms. Wrancher continued her education, ultimately achieving a Master of Science in military and strategic leadership at the Marine Corps University in 2005. In addition to her academic credentials, she earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification in 2020.

In light of her fulfilling career, Ms. Wrancher credits much of her success to her dedicated work ethic and sense of commitment. Likewise, she is grateful for the support of her mother, who often emphasized the importance of learning and how knowledge is key to advancement. Looking ahead, Ms. Wrancher hopes to continue positively impacting her community through her business and civic-minded efforts.
