In addition to his role in Matteson, Mr. Roberts has been the president and chief executive officer of Roberts Consulting Engineers PLLC since 2019. Based in Matteson, his firm provides project management and engineering expertise for municipal government and real estate development sectors.
Beginning his professional journey as a project engineer with the Schaumburg Township Transportation Department in 1993, Mr. Roberts spent 10 years honing his skills in infrastructure planning and engineering management. In 2003, he transitioned to Infrastructure Engineering Inc., where he served as a project manager until 2010. His tenure there was marked by significant contributions to various infrastructure projects. Subsequently, Mr. Roberts joined Robinson Engineering Ltd. as a senior engineer from 2010 to 2019. One of his most notable achievements during this period was leading a successful roadway reconstruction project in University Park, Illinois. This endeavor involved collaboration with multiple stakeholders and securing approximately $10 million in grant funding.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Roberts studied locally in preparation for his future, earning a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, in 1993. His academic foundation laid the groundwork for his expertise in project management and change management.
Mr. Roberts’ professional affiliations include membership in the National Society of Black Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Region Leaders and Project Management Institute. These memberships have been influential in his career success. Mr. Roberts also holds certifications as a project management professional from the Project Management Institute and as a professional engineer in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Roberts is actively involved in civic organizations, such as Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park and the Men’s Round Table. He also serves as a board member for Work Study Enterprises.
A published author since 2024, Mr. Roberts penned “The Law of Biblical Mechanics: Principles and Processes for Management and Stewardship.” In October that year, he hosted a book signing to promote his work. Self-published through Roberts Consulting Engineers PLLC, the book emphasizes the principles of effective stewardship in project management while intertwining biblical aspects that date back to Adam and Eve.
Mr. Roberts attributes his success to the support of his parents, neighborhood and strong values instilled by his faith. He is committed to self-improvement and contributing positively to society. Looking ahead, Mr. Roberts aims to expand his consulting firm further while engaging in more speaking engagements and coaching consultations related to organizational development.
