Launching the Community Connect Center, he has been empowering displaced newcomers of the community with the necessary resources, unity and a sense of belonging required to thrive. He has also implemented various successful initiatives that have significantly promoted diversity, accessibility and social justice. Dr. Alier’s responsibilities encompass managing a team of approximately 10 individuals, engaging in fundraising efforts and securing grants. His leadership ensures that the organization runs smoothly and fulfills its commitments to the community.

Shortly after launching the Community Connect Center, Dr. Alier concluded his role as the executive director of the South Sudanese Foundation in Fargo, North Dakota, where he was instrumental from 2024 to 2025. This role required him to accept a pay cut to pursue this passion, but he was eager to make a difference in others’ lives.

Enthusiastic about establishing hospitable environments for individuals of all backgrounds and identities, Dr. Alier began his career shortly after high school. He embarked on a three-year tenure in social work, laying the foundation for his commitment to social justice and equity. He then spent over five years in the insurance industry before returning to his passion for social work at Cass County Social Services, where he served for nearly a decade. Dr. Alier’s dedication to equity and inclusion led him to Moorhead Area Public Schools, where he served as the director of equity and inclusion from 2020 to 2025. In this role, he was pivotal in creating an environment where every child felt valued and encouraged to learn, while providing professional development training to staff members.

Dr. Alier’s academic achievements have been critical in his career success. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania State University. Subsequently, he completed a master’s degree in educational leadership and a Doctor of Educational Leadership. These academic credentials have equipped Dr. Alier with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in his roles, particularly in economic development, where he is a recognized expert.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Alier is deeply involved in civic organizations. He is a board member for Global Refugee, Churches United and the New American Consortium for Wellness and Empowerment. He has also been chairing and serving on the board of the Human Rights Commission for the City of Fargo for over five years. Dr. Alier’s contributions to these organizations underscore his commitment to human rights and community empowerment.

Dr. Alier’s personal experiences have profoundly influenced his professional journey. Having faced hardships at a young age without parental support, he learned self-reliance early on. This resilience has been a driving force behind his success and his ability to inspire others through his work.

In recognition of his impactful contributions, Dr. Alier was honored with the Changemaker of the Year Award for North Dakota in 2017. This accolade reflects his dedication to creating positive change within his community. Looking ahead, Dr. Alier aims to continue making positive change and uplifting those around him, inspired by his warm welcome upon arriving in the U.S. in 2006. His vision is to see this spirit of generosity and belonging replicated throughout the nation.
