Mr. Isaac has established a distinguished career in the financial and legal sectors, marked by his expertise in risk management and his dedication to public service. His diverse roles began in 1969 as an attorney at Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee, where he focused on general corporate and banking law. Since then, Mr. Isaac has held several significant roles, culminating in his position as chair of Secura/Isaac Group, a global advisory firm with offices in New York City and Washington, D.C., since 2022, where he remains committed to helping others navigate regulatory compliance and manage risks effectively. He previously spent 25 years with The Secura Group as the founder and chair between 1986 and 2011.
Throughout his career, Mr. Isaac’s professional trajectory included chairing the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from 1978 to 1986. During this period, he faced the formidable challenge of overseeing the banking system amidst 2,000 bank failures. His leadership was instrumental in maintaining stability during this crisis. Mr. Isaac’s collaboration with Paul Volcker, a respected public servant, further underscored his commitment to effective governance and regulatory compliance.
Following his impactful role at the FDIC, Mr. Isaac founded The Secura Group. He concurrently held the position of senior partner at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP in Washington, D.C., a leading law firm with over 1,000 practicing attorneys across 15 offices worldwide, between 1986 and 1994. Mr. Isaac’s leadership extended to Secura Burnett Co. LLC in San Francisco from 1992 to 2007, where he served as chair.
Mr. Isaac later served as the board chair for Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati from 2009 to 2014, as a board director for Fifth Third Bancorp from 2010 to 2015, and as a senior managing director at FTI Consulting between 2011 and 2019. He also contributed his expertise as a director at Total Systems Services in 2014. Mr. Isaac’s strategic insights have been invaluable in steering these institutions toward success.
Mr. Isaac’s journey began with a Bachelor of Science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1966, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence, summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University in 1969. These academic achievements laid the foundation for his successful career, equipping him with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex legal and financial landscapes.
Beyond his degrees, Mr. Isaac’s commitment to professional and personal development is evident through his involvement with various professional, civic and educational organizations, including the Wisconsin, Kentucky and Washington, D.C., Bar Associations. He has also been active on several advisory boards and councils, including the Federal National Mortgage Association and Miami University. He is a lifetime trustee member of the Miami University Foundation, a member of the board of directors for The Ohio State University Foundation, and the chair of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Furthermore, Mr. Isaac has been actively engaged with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Goodwill Industries International Inc.
A talented writer, Mr. Isaac’s literary contributions include co-authoring “Bank Holding Companies: A Practical Guide to Bank Acquisitions and Mergers” and authoring “Senseless Panic: How Washington Failed America.” As he anticipates the future, Mr. Isaac is not ready to retire and hopes to continue impacting the field over the next five to 10 years.
