In this capacity, Mr. Buzelli ensures that processing and payments are executed efficiently and reviews escalations for special customer requests. His leadership has been instrumental in creating a robust system for a portfolio from scratch, significantly contributing to the company’s stability and sustainability.
Before being named senior director, Mr. Buzelli was the director of risk and fraud at AppFolio Inc. from 2021 to 2023. During this period, he continued to build on his previous successes by implementing processes that prevented substantial losses for the company. Initially hired by the company in 2020, Mr. Buzelli garnered experience as a senior manager of risk and fraud, laying the foundation for future accomplishments.
Mr. Buzelli’s career also included significant contributions at Thumbtack, where he served as the senior manager of risk and payments and played a crucial role leading a team of trust and safety analysts that conducted advanced, proactive research and data analysis from 2018 to 2019. He then became the head of trust and safety, risk and payments between 2019 and 2020, responsible for the continued success of the organization’s integrity.
Among other noteworthy roles, Mr. Buzelli managed underwriting and operations at TSYS from 2016 to 2018, managing underwriting processes and operational efficiencies while leading diversity and inclusion initiatives. At Visa, he excelled as the director of risk management and underwriting between 2008 to 2016. Mr. Buzelli’s initial professional experiences included positions as a sales supervisor at Comcast Cable in 2008, customer service supervisor at Advanta from 2007 to 2008, and customer service section leader at Discover Financial Services between 2004 and 2007.
Born in Brazil, Mr. Buzelli moved to the U.S. in middle school. After graduating high school, he earned an Associate of Science in business administration and management from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2009. This education laid the groundwork for Mr. Buzelli’s career in business management and risk assessment.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Buzelli is actively involved with industry-related organizations, such as the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators and the National Automated Clearinghouse Association. His commitment extends beyond his professional life into civic engagement as a volunteer with the Utah Gay Fathers Association.
Reflecting on his career over the past two decades, Mr. Buzelli attributes much of his success to his perseverance while coming of age, moving to a new country without knowing the language. Overcoming this language barrier was a testament to his determination. As an adult, Mr. Buzelli’s dedication to his work and the mentorship he received continued to propel him forward.
