Title: Executive Vice President
Company: SBC Solutions Group
Location: Centerburg, Ohio, United States
Ryan Hatfield, executive vice president at SBC Solutions Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in the recycling and sustainability industry.
Mr. Hatfield has established an esteemed career as executive vice president of SBC Solutions Group, a role he has held since 1999. Under his leadership, the company has undergone significant transformation and growth. SBC Solutions Group was founded in 1992 by Mr. Hatfield’s family, initially focusing on agriculture by shredding newspapers for animal bedding and supplying local farmers. However, in 1995, a dramatic surge in paper recycling prices prompted a strategic pivot from agricultural products to commercial recycling. The company began specializing in recycling newspapers, various paper grades, cardboard, office papers and post-consumer plastics such as milk jugs, pop bottles and water bottles.
By the late 1990s, SBC Solutions Group expanded its focus on plastics, integrating them into its marketing strategy and shifting the business model away from paper toward plastics recycling. In 2017, the aforementioned company further diversified its offerings by launching new services that emphasized sustainability and environmentally friendly solutions. Mr. Hatfield’s innovative approach has positioned SBC Solutions Group as a leader in adaptive recycling practices.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Hatfield has also contributed to industry dialogue and thought leadership. He was invited to serve as a panel speaker at a sustainability conference hosted by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, where he provided a unique perspective as the only privately held business owner among executives from multi-billion-dollar Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Hatfield’s professional affiliations include membership in the Association of Ohio Recyclers from 1994 to 2005 before he took an extended hiatus. He rejoined the Association of Ohio Recyclers in 2023 and remains an active member to this day.
Before embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Hatfield pursued an education at Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and finance with a minor in theater, summa cum laude, in 1999. As the first generation in his family to attend college, he credits his parents for encouraging him and his brothers to pursue higher education rather than follow the family’s nearly two-century-old farming tradition in Ohio. This academic foundation provided him with critical skills that have supported his success in business management and strategic planning.
Mr. Hatfield’s commitment to his community extends beyond his professional achievements into civic engagement. He serves as volunteer staff at The Columbus Dream Center and as part of the Serve Team at Rock City Church since 2020. He co-founded and coaches for Lewis Center Sharks Youth Softball beginning in 2013 and previously coached for Babe Ruth League Inc. from 2009 to 2020. Additionally, he supported the children’s ministry at Vineyard Columbus during the same period.
Mr. Hatfield’s contributions to environmental stewardship have been recognized with honors such as Recycler of the Year in 2000. He is also an accomplished public speaker, having presented at numerous environmental and sustainability conferences, including being invited as a guest speaker for periodicals and church leadership conferences.
A native of Mount Vernon, Mr. Hatfield is deeply influenced by his parents Lynn and Betty Hatfield, whose guidance shaped his values of integrity, humility and hard work. He also cites faith as a central influence on his life’s direction. In his personal life, Mr. Hatfield is dedicated to fostering growth among young people through coaching and ministry efforts, viewing them as the next generation worthy of investment and mentorship. He is committed to making a positive impact on others’ lives through meaningful work, ethical business practices and community involvement.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Hatfield hopes to be remembered not for material achievements but for his leadership and ability to teach others by example—valuing respect, diligence and kindness above all else. His legacy is defined by a willingness to embrace hard work, learn from failure and inspire those around him to pursue excellence with humility and purpose.
