John Wilson, senior threat environment engineer at Endictus Corp., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in information technology.
Endlessly curious and driven by growth, Mr. Wilson has devoted more than 30 years to his esteemed career in cybersecurity and information technology (IT). Beginning his professional journey with the U.S. Army in 1994, he initially served as a record telecommunications center operator and maintainer. Mr. Wilson was later promoted to such positions as information systems technician, alternate communications security custodian and information assurance security officer. After leaving full-time military work in 2008, he became a senior systems security engineer at Science Applications International Corporation Inc. (SAIC).
Mr. Wilson also served as a senior systems engineer at COLSA Corporation from 2013 to 2015. He later contributed as a cybersecurity engineer and cyber threat intelligence analyst at Test LLC, and a Red Hat enterprise Linux administrator with Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. Since 2023, Mr. Wilson has served as a senior threat environment engineer for Endictus Corp. In this role, he works with client companies to create comprehensive network diagrams representing cybersecurity threats. Utilizing his years of IT expertise, Mr. Wilson analyzes and reconfigures networks to meet the needs of dynamic test environments. His skills are put to use in helping organizations to train for defense against cyber threats, as well as in digital forensics that can help them find the source of a breach.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Wilson has maintained his connection with the military. Though he retired from his full-time Army career in 2008, he has continued to operate as an intrusion analyst and network defense mission lead for the U.S. Army Reserve, providing the organization with threat and vulnerability assessments and monitoring attacks against military and government networks. Mr. Wilson has also dedicated time to teaching others as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus since 2011. He has taught courses on network security, computer repair, digital forensics and ethical hacker principles.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Wilson has been supported by a strong academic foundation, beginning with coursework in network security at the University of Advancing Technology and coursework in criminal justice and law enforcement administration at Central Texas College. In 2005, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in information systems management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Subsequently, Mr. Wilson earned a master’s degree in network and communications management from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management. He has further solidified his credentials through continued learning. Mr. Wilson is certified as a live investigator through WetStone Technologies; in open source intelligence through McAfee LLC; as a network installer through the U.S. Army; as an ethical hacker and a security analyst through EC-Council; in security essentials, critical controls, and continuous monitoring, and as a systems and network auditor, an incident handler, and an industrial cybersecurity professional through The Escal Institute of Advanced Technology (aka the SANS Institute); and in technical project management and generative artificial intelligence (AI) through LinkedIn.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Wilson takes the most pride in serving as a mentor and supporting those younger than him in the field. He gains great satisfaction from guiding others in building their skills and increasing their confidence. Mr. Wilson acknowledges the importance of mentorship on his trajectory. He credits his success to the lessons offered by several notable figures in his military and professional lives, as well as his parents, Edward and Sharon, who instilled in him a lasting character, work ethic and set of values.
Beyond his career, Mr. Wilson is a committed husband, father to four daughters, stepfather to three sons and grandfather to one. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and practicing martial arts. Mr. Wilson harbors great ambitions for the future, aiming to establish his own company with his wife. Alongside this endeavor, he intends to launch a venture focused on supporting people looking to enter the cybersecurity field through training, mentorship and job opportunities.
