Mr. Berger has established a distinguished career spanning more than two decades in the water industry, marked by expertise in water purification and treatment. Since 2022, he has served as an executive sales professional with Hach in Wisconsin, where he is responsible for reaching out to customers, creating new sales opportunities, following up on existing sales and managing service contracts. His role also includes identifying new business prospects, expanding services for current clients and presenting at trade shows, seminars and water associations throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Under Mr. Berger’s stewardship, the business has consistently grown at a rate of six to eight%-8% annually. His commitment to customer relationships is evident in his approach to client care, ensuring their needs are met while fostering long-term partnerships.
Before joining Hach, Mr. Berger was a senior account executive at Evoqua Water Technologies from 2019 to 2022. During this period, he demonstrated initiative by earning his water technician certifications, Level I and II, at Evoqua, even though they were not required for his position. This pursuit of additional knowledge and skill development underscored Mr. Berger’s dedication to being a well-rounded water professional.
Mr. Berger’s foundational experience in the field was shaped by more than 15 years of service in the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2019, where he held the roles of senior manager and water treatment supervisor. Stationed primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan, he led critical missions that involved purifying several gallons of water daily to supply troops on base and support convoys and mission crews. His most notable achievement occurred during a 15-month deployment in Iraq, where he managed the purification of between 200,000 and 300,000 gallons per day, totaling four to six million gallons for the duration to sustain an entire base and its operations. In addition to overseeing all training within his section, Mr. Berger participated in joint exercises with local communities, collaborating with other water professionals at their treatment facilities to exchange ideas and best practices.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Berger earned an Associate of Applied Science in religious studies and a Bachelor of Arts in the same field from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He further completed a 12-week water treatment specialist course at the Water Purification School, sponsored by the U.S. Army. Mr. Berger’s commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in his numerous certifications. In addition to his aforementioned water technician credential, he holds designations in the health and wellness sector, specifically in weightlifting coaching, nutrition and CrossFit.
Personal health and wellness are also important facets of Mr. Berger’s life. He is proud to have lost over 110 pounds twice, once before joining the military and again after leaving military service. He has leveraged this experience to inspire others about the importance of proper nutrition and maintaining a healthy body through his certifications.
Mr. Berger’s professional affiliations include membership with the Wisconsin Wastewater Operators’ Association, the Water Quality Association, the Water Research Foundation and Water.org. These connections have enabled him to remain at the forefront of industry developments while contributing to broader efforts that advance water quality standards.
Civic engagement is central to Mr. Berger’s life outside of work. He has served as a varsity defensive line coach at Green Bay Southwest High School since 2022 and participates annually as a volunteer coach at two to three local youth camps. Moreover, Mr. Berger supports Walk for Water initiatives and provides monthly monetary donations to his local church’s bus fund.
Throughout his career, Mr. Berger has been recognized for his achievements with multiple Sales Awards for meeting quotas and sales targets, as well as the Gold Achievement Award from Hach. Meanwhile, his military service earned him a medal for the Iraq Water Mission, as well as Army Achievement Medals and Army Commendation Medals.
Mr. Berger comes from a military family, with his grandfather having served in the U.S. Air Force and his father having been a U.S. Marine. This, alongside his discipline and work ethic, as well as the unwavering support of his family and friends, has been pivotal to his success. Eager for the future, Mr. Berger aims to further grow Hach’s presence in the region and become a keynote speaker at industry events. Additionally, he intends to begin training military personnel, law enforcement officers and firefighters through the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification, which he is currently pursuing, before ultimately opening his own gym upon retirement from Hach.
