Sam Desai, director of business development at MCT Industries Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in manufacturing.
Building off of 30 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Desai has crafted a strong reputation as someone willing to push himself to take on new responsibilities and learn new skills. Born in Uganda and educated in London until the age of 9, he immigrated to the United States as a child and enlisted in the Air Force at 17 years old. Within the military, Mr. Desai became an aerospace ground equipment technician, aiding in the maintenance of all types of aircraft. He was stationed in Qatar during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, working with two-star generals and colonels to help ensure victory.
Since retiring from military service as a chief master sergeant and command chief in 2011, Mr. Desai has taken on the position of director of business at MCT Industries Inc. This role builds off his expertise as a technician. MCT Industries Inc. offers manufacturing and development solutions for a wide range of products, such as mechanical systems, metal products and ground support equipment. The company’s clients include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, NASA, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Energy and others.
In his time at MCT Industries Inc., Mr. Desai has stepped into a position of leadership within the company. He creates new proposals and secures contracts for the organization while also acting as a technical subject matter expert. Further bolstered by his military connections, Mr. Desai aids the company as a liaison to the military, providing guidance when encountering terminology and making sure that MCT Industries can successfully fulfill orders from military branches. He is also responsible for worldwide support in solving any issues encountered by MCT’s equipment in the field.
Beyond his initial education in London, Mr. Desai obtained his general educational development (GED) diploma after immigrating to the United States. Subsequently, he earned an Associate of Arts in applied technology and aerospace ground equipment from the Community College of the Air Force in 1997.
While enrolled in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Desai experienced multiple highlights. From 1994 to 1999, he contributed in Panama at a moment when there was much uncertainty about the future renewal of the Panama Canal Treaty. With Mr. Desai’s guidance, the United States was able to accomplish a safe, efficient withdrawal from the area while transferring equipment to the local government. He is also proud to have created innovative new de-icing equipment for aircraft that is still used to this day.
Mr. Desai has garnered numerous awards for his military service. He has received two Air Force Accommodation Medals, three Air Force Combination Medals and two Air Force Achievement Medals. Additionally, Mr. Desai has been presented with a Meritorious Service Medal, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal and a Bronze Star Medal.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Desai is a loving husband, father to twin sons and grandfather to four grandchildren. He enjoys reading and doing activities with his local church. Looking to the future, Mr. Desai aims to begin transitioning out of full-time work and into consulting as he nears retirement age. Though he has no intention to stop working altogether, he envisions pursuing a more flexible schedule, possibly by starting his own consulting firm, which will allow him to spend more time traveling to new places.
