Ms. Gorman-Althof has established a distinguished career in theater production, education and business leadership, marked by her commitment to empowering women and fostering creative excellence. For over a decade, she has served as the lead producer and chief executive officer of MNM Theatre, a position she assumed in 2014. In this capacity, Ms. Gorman-Althof oversees all building assessments for her theater and other venues throughout South Florida, produces shows, including a new production scheduled for a two-year tour, and manages administrative operations. She is also responsible for supervising set construction, ensuring that each project meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
Before pivoting into theater arts, Ms. Gorman-Althof made significant contributions to arts education as a substitute teacher in the theater department at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts from 2008 to 2014. During her tenure, she directed one children’s show and produced another, demonstrating her dedication to nurturing young talent and advancing the performing arts education. Ms. Gorman-Althof notably began her professional career as a teacher with Memphis City Schools from 1970 to 1973, laying the foundation for her lifelong commitment to education and community engagement.
Ms. Gorman-Althof’s professional journey also included extensive experience in business management and organizational leadership. As the president of Markel Enterprises LLC (formerly Markel Ads Inc.) and S.M.I.R.K. Entertainment LLC, she demonstrated strategic vision and operational expertise. She also excelled as the president of the Weight Watchers International Franchise Association, where she championed initiatives that supported franchisees nationwide. Ms. Gorman-Althof’s earlier roles included serving as a training director for Weight Watchers International in Palm Beach County, Florida, and Southern Alabama for more than 20 years, where she developed training programs that enhanced organizational effectiveness.
Ms. Gorman-Althof’s academic background includes an Associate of Arts from the University of Florida in 1968 and a Bachelor of Science in education from Memphis State University in 1970. Her educational achievements have been instrumental in shaping her approach to leadership and collaboration within diverse teams.
Throughout her career, Ms. Gorman-Althof has been actively involved in numerous industry-related organizations. She served as the national president of the Weight Watchers International Franchise Association after holding positions as region IV co-chair, second vice president, chairperson of the region IV board of directors, treasurer and first vice president. She also chaired the marketing committee for the advertising and marketing council within the association. Ms. Gorman-Althof’s advocacy for women’s advancement is reflected in her memberships with the National Association for Female Executives, the National Organization for Women, the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches Foundation, the American Business Women’s Association, the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Zonta International.
Ms. Gorman-Althof’s civic involvement is equally extensive. She currently serves as the vice president of Communities In Schools of Palm Beach County, having previously held the position of president. She is also the chair of the committee and a board member of the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission. Additional roles include founding member and committee member at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, cubmaster with Cub Scouts, honorary lieutenant colonel on the Alabama Militia Board, volunteer at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts and service on the Palm Beach County Education Board.
Ms. Gorman-Althof’s creative contributions have included directing over 15 professional musical theater shows at regional venues across South Florida over the past decade. Her current production, “Disenchanted!,” reimagines classic princess stories with humor and empowerment, a theme that resonates deeply with audiences seeking narratives about independence and self-discovery. Past productions include acclaimed titles such as “Company,” “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” and “Man of La Mancha,” among others.
In light of her success, Ms. Gorman-Althof has been recognized with several prestigious awards, such as the ATHENA Leadership Award from the National Chamber of Commerce in 2004, Woman of Distinction by March of Dimes in 2004, honoree status from Executive Women of the Palm Beaches in 2005, and the Giraffe Award in 2014. She attributes her success to perseverance, resilience and a steadfast commitment to fairness and transparency.
