Santa Barbara, California, United States

Peter G. Martin, children’s book author at Peter Martin Storybooks, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in publishing.

Following a successful career of over 30 years in the aerospace industry, Mr. Martin faced down a massive change. In 2017, his son was diagnosed with brain cancer. During many long days and nights spent in the hospital for his son’s treatment and checkups, Mr. Martin witnessed the stunning resilience of other young cancer patients going through similar challenges. This inspired him to retire from his aerospace role in 2019 and pursue an entirely different vocation: writing children’s picture books.

Prior to this, Mr. Martin had always enjoyed telling imaginative stories to his children. His first book, “Dragons on the Purple Moon,” was published in 2021 based on one of those stories. In this tale, Mr. Martin introduced Anna and Avi, a brother-sister duo based on his own children, who went on a colorfully illustrated journey while learning how to confront their fear. He has continued exploring the adventures of Anna and Avi in 2022’s “The Last Lost Forest” and 2024’s “The Mystery of Trash Island.”

Reflecting the life-altering event that led Mr. Martin to become a writer, he donates 100% of the proceeds from his books to charity. Specifically, he has partnered with the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit based in Santa Barbara, California, that aims to offer support to families working through pediatric cancer diagnoses. Since publishing his first picture book, Mr. Martin has raised more than $30,000 for that organization. He considers this commitment to charity to be the most notable achievement of his life.

In his previous work in aerospace, Mr. Martin started his professional life when he moved from his home country of the United Kingdom to California in 1986, joining Collins Aerospace (formerly Rohr Aerospace) as a program cost analyst. He was later promoted to the role of program director and devoted several decades to his time with the company. While working at Collins, Mr. Martin oversaw numerous multimillion-dollar programs. He specialized in cost reduction, product quality and timely delivery to clients.

Mr. Martin’s aerospace career was born of his academic journey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business studies from the University of Plymouth (formerly Plymouth Polytechnic) in 1983.

In addition to his dedicated work with the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, Mr. Martin has become known and lauded for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen. He currently serves as the treasurer of the Santa Barbara School of Squash. Mr. Martin previously worked as a squash coach for a short time before starting his aerospace career. The Santa Barbara School of Squash operates year-round as a nonprofit organization, offering opportunities to learn and play squash as well as further mentoring to underprivileged children in the community.

Beyond his burgeoning career as a writer, Mr. Martin is a loving husband and father to two children. When he’s not creating imaginative new books, he enjoys listening to music, attending concerts and taking walks with his dog. Looking ahead, Mr. Martin plans to continue telling stories and utilizing his craft to help both children and adults. He also hopes to find new ways to aid other adults in getting their own writing published, as he has encountered many people who have completed books but are intimidated by the effort required to get them published.
