Alex W. Golden, senior director of news product and strategy at NBC News Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in media, technology and journalism.
Building a career across more than 30 years at the intersection of technology and media, Mr. Golden has played a major part in huge moments and technological advancements for numerous organizations. This journey began in the 1990s, establishing himself in the early days of the internet as someone who could build a successful website. Mr. Golden’s first foray into media was in 1997 as a business editor and producer at New Jersey Online, followed by a short time as a lead news producer with FoxSports.com. He devoted more than five years to Barnes & Noble as a senior producer for the company’s website during its first significant shift into being an online retailer.
Alongside his primary roles throughout the 2000s, Mr. Golden also created websites for a number of superstar musical artists, including Bob Marley, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses, Keith Urban and Queen Latifah. As a musician playing in multiple amateur bands himself, these jobs were very exciting for him. Concurrently with creating those websites, Mr. Golden became more involved in sports coverage as a senior manager of entertainment and senior editorial producer with MLB Advanced Media and as senior digital product manager with the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football. He briefly contributed as a product manager for AmericanFamily.com through Synapse Group Inc.
Mr. Golden initially joined NBCUniversal Media LLC in 2013 as the product manager of NBC News Technology. He was later promoted to manager of news product and workflows and director of news product and workflows with the NBC News Group. Since 2022, Mr. Golden has served as the senior director of news product and strategy with the organization. As the leader of the product team, he helps decide what technology to invest in or develop in order to support NBC’s news coverage and plan for the future.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Golden is especially proud of having worked on technology to aid the NBC News Group in election coverage across multiple cycles, including the 2012 and 2016 elections. He views these as pivotal, news-making moments in American history, and he’s grateful that he was able to contribute to NBC’s successful coverage. Since then, Mr. Golden has spearheaded significant enhancements to NBS News Group’s technology and workflows. He has also launched multiple internal products that continue to be utilized to this day.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Golden created a foundation with his education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Trinity College in 1993. Mr. Golden’s credentials were further solidified through certification as a Star Manager via APMG International. His work has garnered numerous accolades, most notably the Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award, which he has won multiple times from the NBC News Group.
Beyond his career, Mr. Golden is a loving father to one daughter. He enjoys spending his free time playing music, watching sports and building websites. Looking ahead, Mr. Golden is focused on exploring and discovering the next great innovations in media and journalism technology. He’s currently investigating various artificial intelligence (AI) tools to determine what will be useful for the NBC News Group and what standards need to be implemented. He believes these choices will lay the groundwork for the company’s future.
