Mr. Maurelli’s extensive career in the insurance and payroll industries spans more than four decades, marked by innovation, leadership and a steadfast commitment to service. As the president of Crossroads Network – Powered by ERMA since 2024, he has focused on elevating the company’s profile through strategic sales and marketing initiatives.
In his latest role, Mr. Maurelli has introduced new offerings to the market, emphasizing Crossroads Network’s unique approach and ensuring that messaging remains clear and consistent. His efforts have centered on effectively communicating the value Crossroads Network brings to clients and partners, particularly through the launch of a pioneering pay-as-you-go general liability product in exclusive partnership with Markel. This innovative solution, tied to payroll like workers’ compensation, is being rolled out nationwide as Mr. Maurelli leads the process of educating agents and building trust within the marketplace.
Before launching Crossroads Network, Mr. Maurelli garnered tremendous success as the vice president of PAYO at AmTrust North America Inc. from 2012 to 2024. During this period, he was instrumental in developing and scaling the PAYO® (Pay-As-You-Owe) program, a groundbreaking integration of payroll systems with workers’ compensation insurance operations. Under Mr. Maurelli’s leadership, PAYO® grew from concept to a national standard, amassing 100,000 policies and generating over $1 billion in premium revenue. Notably, this achievement represented approximately one-third of AmTrust’s total book of business and was pivotal in establishing the company as a leader in the industry. Moreover, his enhancements to the PAYO® system resulted in AmTrust writing $250 million in new business in just over 18 months, an accomplishment rooted in meeting urgent market needs rather than aggressive sales tactics.
Mr. Maurelli’s earlier years at AmTrust North America included his role as a regional sales manager from 1996 to 2012. During this tenure, he played a critical role in expanding the company’s reach by working closely with agents to identify pain points and demonstrate how innovative payment plans could drive business growth. Mr. Maurelli’s pioneering journey began at CompUS/Gulf Atlantic Management Group from 1991 to 1996 as a pay-as-you-go sales expert, where he laid the foundation for what would become the pay-as-you-go model for workers’ compensation payment plans. This concept was largely unfamiliar at the time, but has since become an industry standard nationwide.
Mr. Maurelli’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a strong foundation in business coursework from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in 1982, where he was an academic All-American baseball player. He previously completed coursework in psychology at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, initially aspiring to become an industrial psychologist. The principles of business psychology, however, have remained central to his professional success, enabling him to understand motivations, foster effective relationships, and support both clients and colleagues with empathy.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Maurelli is civically engaged as a donor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society. He has also volunteered extensively through church activities and has served as a youth sports coach.
Throughout his career, Mr. Maurelli has been recognized as an expert in payroll and insurance as well as pay-as-you-go payment systems, fields in which he is widely regarded as a true pioneer. His unique blend of operational insight and market acumen has enabled him to revolutionize industry practices while maintaining a people-first philosophy.
Mr. Maurelli’s accomplishments have been recognized through numerous awards, including Best Specialty Division and Top Salesperson honors at AmTrust North America Inc., as well as various other sales awards throughout his career. Family support has been integral throughout his career journey. Despite demanding travel schedules required by his roles, particularly during his tenure at AmTrust, Mr. Maurelli prioritized staying connected with his wife and three sons by coaching their sports teams whenever possible and making every effort to be present for important family moments.
Looking ahead, Mr. Maurelli remains committed to supporting his family while positively influencing both the business world and those around him through innovation at Crossroads Network. His goals are centered on creating sustainable success for employees by rewarding dedication.
