For the past five years, he has served as the director of the fiscal control department for Saint Louis Public Schools, where he oversees operations related to accounting, accounts payable, risk management and inventory control. In this capacity, Mr. Ellis has demonstrated expertise in streamlining processes and ensuring the integrity of financial operations for one of the region’s largest educational systems.
Before being retained by the school district, Mr. Ellis was an accountant with the leading global aerospace company, Boeing, from 2014 to 2020. During his tenure at Boeing, he contributed to the financial oversight of complex projects and played a key role in maintaining compliance with industry standards. Between 2008 and 2014, Mr. Ellis held the position of senior accountant in the office of research administration at the University of Missouri.
During his tenure at the University of Missouri, Mr. Ellis served as the mayor of the City of Greendale, Missouri, from 2007 to 2011. In this leadership role, he was responsible for municipal governance and fiscal oversight, honing his skills in public administration and community engagement. Mr. Ellis’s earlier experiences included working as a professional in internal controls at Experis between 2004 and 2008 and as an internal auditor at Enterprise Holdings Inc., starting in 2000.
Mr. Ellis’s academic foundation included a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1994 and a Master of Business Administration in management from the Robert J. Trulaske Sr. college of business at the University of Missouri, earned in 1998. In addition to his formal education, Mr. Ellis holds credentials as a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, and licensed notary public.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Ellis is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. These organizations have played an essential role in his continuous development and ability to network with like-minded individuals within his field. Mr. Ellis has also been affiliated with NABA Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes and develops the professional skills of accounting, finance and business professionals. Moreover, his longstanding involvement with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., which began in 1993, has been particularly meaningful, culminating in his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2023 for his contributions to the fraternity and broader community.
Throughout his career, Mr. Ellis has developed recognized proficiency in accounting, auditing, accounts payable, risk management and inventory control. These accomplishments stand among his proudest professional milestones.
Eager for the future, Mr. Ellis aspires to return to a managerial position and ultimately achieve the role of chief financial officer. He attributes his success thus far to his attention to detail, openness to change, flexibility when working with others and staying current with industry developments.
