Mr. Wagner has established a successful career in health care digital strategy and business leadership, marked by a series of influential roles and entrepreneurial achievements. Since 2024, he has served as the chief strategy officer at Salient, where he is responsible for designing and operationalizing foundational principles to co-found and grow the firm as a leading transactional data aggregator. In this capacity, Mr. Wagner oversees the overall strategy for divisions managing marketing, sales and branding, demonstrating his expertise in steering organizational growth and innovation.
Before his current position, Mr. Wagner was instrumental in the founding and development of Health Gorilla from 2014 to 2023. As the co-founder, chief strategy officer and executive vice president of sales and business development, he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s vision and operational framework. Under his leadership, Health Gorilla became a qualified health information network, recognized for its fundamental processes for data sharing and interoperability. The company achieved a significant milestone when it went live at a hearing on December 7, 2020, with Mr. Wagner collaborating closely with Micky Tripathi, head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Health Gorilla’s success culminated in its acquisition by Stanford Medicine Partners and its valuation at $500 million, a testament to Mr. Wagner’s strategic acumen and commitment to creating enduring value in health care technology.
Between 2012 and 2014, Mr. Wagner succeeded as the director of network and business development at University HealthCare Alliance, doing business as Stanford Medicine Partners. In this role, he was responsible for expanding provider networks and fostering strategic partnerships that enhanced patient care delivery across the organization. Mr. Wagner’s earlier experience included serving as the director of network and business development at Affinity Medical Solutions from 2009 to 2012.
Mr. Wagner’s academic background includes an associate’s degree and several specialized certifications, including leadership and innovation from MIT Professional Education and recognition as a California-certified mediator by Foothill College. These credentials have equipped him with advanced leadership capabilities and conflict resolution skills vital for navigating the dynamic landscape of health care technology.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Wagner has demonstrated civic commitment through volunteer service with Samaritan House and local food banks. He also held board membership at House Corridor from 2014 to 2023.
Born in Argentina to German and Italian grandparents, Mr. Wagner was raised with a strong immigrant work ethic instilled by his parents. His journey to success was shaped by perseverance, having moved to a new country, learning English as a second language, and drawing inspiration from mentors. Mr. Wagner acknowledges that his achievements are not solely his own but are the result of support from family, colleagues, co-founders and formative experiences throughout his career.
