Prior to getting involved in the world of finance, Mr. Burns owned and operated his own computer sales business. Feeling that the industry was on the decline in the early 2000s, he chose to close that business. Mr. Burns was unsure about his next step, when his niece suggested he explore the field of taxation. Bolstered by his background in finance, he founded TransTax Associates in 2005.
As a financial adviser through TransTax Associates, Mr. Burns takes on clients whose incomes range between $70,000 and $130,000. He helps these clients with tax compliance, college and retirement planning, investment management, and more. Mr. Burns describes his job as being a “financial quarterback” for his clients, with the overall goal of building lasting prosperity for them and ensuring they won’t have to work into old age. As part of those efforts, he teaches the importance of financial discipline, instilling responsible spending and saving habits that can benefit clients for their entire lives.
In addition to his work with TransTax Associates, Mr. Burns has served as the president of INV Logistics Inc. since 2000, where he offers financial accountancy. Since 2018, he has also been associated with CPR Investments as the company’s only Texas-based investment adviser representative. Mr. Burns has received comprehensive training in financial planning through CPR Investments. He values integrity and ethical conduct, considering his esteemed reputation as the standout highlight of his career.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Burns established a foundation in his academic career. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1971. Subsequently, Mr. Burns earned a Master of Business Administration in finance and financial management services from the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University in 2004. He is a certified tax coach, a registered investment adviser, and an enrolled agent through the IRS.
Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Mr. Burns supports his community through various engagements. Most noticeably, he is the vice president of the Dallas chapter of the Achievers Network (formerly Black Achievers Inc.). Through this organization, Mr. Burns supports his local community of business professionals. His engagement with the Achievers Network is driven by his belief in living by the Golden Rule: “Don’t do unto others what you don’t want done unto you.”
When considering his achievements, Mr. Burns attributes his success to his keen ability to focus on important tasks. He is dedicated to completing hard work in order to ensure positive outcomes for his clients. Mr. Burns also notes his emphasis on analyzing each client’s situation and modifying his approach to best serve their interests. Beyond his professional life, Mr. Burns has been happily married for 44 years and is a loving father to five and grandfather to two. His favorite pastime is watching football. Ambitious in his goals, Mr. Burns is eager to continue building TransTax Associates and expanding its financial services. While aiming to create the foremost financial company in the Southwest, he also looks forward to retirement in the future.
