Mark Genovese, president of J.G. Electrical Installations Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical installations and construction.
Thriving in the field for 40 years, Mr. Genovese never expected as a teenager that his life would go in this direction. After high school, he worked in union labor and faced mandatory furloughs that forced him to take time off. Frustrated by this and looking to make ends meet, Mr. Genovese took on side jobs and was surprised to discover that working on his own, he would sometimes earn in a single month what his main job paid him in a full year. Rather than leading to discouragement, this realization sparked his determination to one day operate his own business.
After proving himself as an electrician for 10 years, Mr. Genovese got the opportunity to fulfill that ambition when he acquired J.G. Electrical Installations Inc. in 1998. Since then, he has built up the company’s reputation as a dependable electrical contractor within the construction industry. Mr. Genovese has worked with such major clients as Bosch, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens and United Technologies. Through J.G. Electrical Installations, he employs 80 staff members who take on projects throughout New York’s five boroughs.
Among J.G. Electrical Installations’ most noteworthy projects, Mr. Genovese is currently focused on the company’s work on the construction of a new Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This project is being done for JetBlue in partnership with Siemens and employs 20 to 25 workers. At this point in his career, Mr. Genovese oversees many of the higher-level elements of the business, including accounts payable, collections, estimates, sales and weekly financial monitoring, while his son, Mark, manages daily operations on-site. The JFK Airport project is split into two phases and is expected to extend through 2029.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Genovese established foundational knowledge through his education. He obtained an associate degree from Empire State University, formerly Empire State College. Subsequently, Mr. Genovese earned licensure as a master electrician in New York City in 1995. Having long considered himself uninterested in school and tests, he views passing the licensure exam as a major highlight.
A volunteer within his local community, Mr. Genovese is committed to giving back, especially through his church. He views faith, family and health as equally important elements to his career and always seeks to balance all of them. Additionally, Mr. Genovese believes that J.G. Electrical Installations Inc. is set apart from competitors thanks to competitive pricing, consistent quality and the ability to reliably stick to project schedules. He sees himself as goal-driven above all else and approaches every job with the mindset of doing whatever it takes to get it done.
Beyond his professional life, Mr. Genovese is a loving husband, father to two and grandfather to two. He spends his free time playing tennis, waterskiing, wake surfing, going to the gym, and renovating and flipping homes. Though he is not retiring in the immediate future, Mr. Genovese has started planning for stepping back eventually. He aims to pass the business on to his son, who has already taken on many responsibilities, with the hope that one day it will continue on to one of his grandchildren.
