RoShawn C. Evans, Co-founder at Pure Justice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Advocacy and Community Support.

Mr. Evans has distinguished himself as a leader in community outreach and resource coordination, earning recognition for his expertise and dedication to social justice. Since 2015, he has served as co-founder of Pure Justice in Houston, Texas, an organization he established alongside his spouse, attorney Sasha Leggett.

Since the launch of Pure Justice, the organization has garnered widespread attention for its advocacy and reform initiatives. Under Mr. Evans’s leadership, it has become a prominent force in criminal justice reform, racial justice and economic justice. Pure Justice relies on community organizing, civic engagement, education, and research to help reform institutions and systems that perpetuate social and criminal injustices and to improve the lives of low-income and working-class families.

Over the past decade, Mr. Evans has been responsible for organizing community fieldwork, scheduling courthouse activities, coordinating team members’ assignments, ensuring proper logistics for events, and more. His efforts have directly impacted the lives of individuals affected by the justice system, motivating him to continue working diligently for change.

Mr. Evans earned an Associate of Applied Science in political science and government at Houston City College in 2019 and an undergraduate degree in political science and government from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2021. His academic pursuits provided a strong foundation for his advocacy and reform work.

Beyond his education, Mr. Evans’s affiliations include membership in The National Society of Leadership and Success, HonorSociety.org Inc., Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Honor Society and the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. He also maintains active involvement with civic organizations, such as Houston in Action and Sankofa.org, furthering his engagement with community-based initiatives.

Mr. Evans’s commitment to justice is further reflected in his authorship of several books on the criminal legal system, including “Stolen Identity,” which was adapted into the film “Journey to Justice.” His other works include “Open Your Mind,” “RoShawn and the Camp Click” and “The Domino Effect.” These publications have contributed to public discourse on systemic inequities and inspired action within communities.

Mr. Evans’s advocacy has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Justice Partnership Award from Texas Advocates for Justice and the Justice Roundtable in 2025. During his college years, he was named Political Science Student of the Year by the University of Houston-Downtown.

Following a path to social justice that was influenced by personal experiences that began at a young age, Mr. Evans consistently stood up for others who were bullied or marginalized, demonstrating an early commitment to equity. At age 17, he faced a false accusation and inadequate legal support. The experience exposed Mr. Evans to systemic flaws in the legal system and motivated him to pursue meaningful change through Pure Justice.

Mr. Evans continues to set ambitious goals for himself and his organization. He is dedicated to expanding Pure Justice’s reach by hiring additional staff and creating new opportunities for community engagement. His long-term vision includes developing future leaders within peer justice movements, advocating for civil liberties and serving as a spokesperson who unites people around critical causes. Central to Mr. Evans’s mission is the creation of a protected class in which individuals cannot be discriminated against or denied basic needs based on race, skin color, origin, nationality or economic status, regardless of their history with the justice system.

Mr. Evans emphasizes that proper safety is achieved not through incarceration but through investment in liberation and access to resources that enable progress. He advocates redirecting public funds to uplift communities rather than criminalizing poverty or hardship, and dismantling systems of oppression. Through his leadership at Pure Justice, his published works and his ongoing advocacy efforts, Mr. Evans remains committed to advancing equity and justice while inspiring others to join him in building a more inclusive society.
