Mr. Wu has distinguished himself as the secretary general of the Taiwan Center Foundation of Greater Los Angeles since 2016. Among a range of responsibilities, Mr. Wu is tasked with managing staff, overseeing donor relations, organizing events and conducting community programs that promote broader objectives, such as strengthening U.S. relations. He also leads press conferences and fundraising campaigns, orchestrating significant events such as pageants, galas and commemorative activities.
Headquartered in Rosemead, California, the Taiwan Center Foundation of Greater Los Angeles was launched in 1998 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Taiwanese culture and heritage through charitable, cultural, literary and educational activities. The organization is run by a team of more than 35 board members and currently has over 800 members and 50 affiliated organizations.
In addition to his work with the Taiwan Center Foundation, Mr. Wu owns his own investment company. Through this venture, he has demonstrated business acumen and leadership in financial management.
Mr. Wu’s academic background includes earning a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in policy studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2003. The analytical skills and policy knowledge gained during his studies have been instrumental in his professional achievements, particularly in navigating complex international issues and organizational leadership.
Actively engaged in professional organizations, Mr. Wu is a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. This affiliation reflects his engagement with industry standards and regulatory practices within the financial sector, serving as a testament to his integrity and dedication to providing exceptional services for his clients.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Wu has remained actively involved in civic organizations. He serves as the president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Formosan Association for Public Affairs and as the head of World United Formosans for Independence. Additionally, he chairs the Taiwanese American Heritage Week Committee of Greater Los Angeles and is a member of the executive committee of the U.S. West Chapter of the Democratic Progressive Party. Furthermore, Mr. Wu serves as an advisor to the Overseas Community Affairs Council and as a government affairs advisor to Taiwan’s prime minister.
A defining moment in Mr. Wu’s career occurred in 2017 when he played a pivotal role in advancing the Taiwan Travel Act. This landmark legislation enabled high-level officials from the U.S. and Taiwan to meet and travel to one another, facilitating discussions on meaningful issues at a time when direct connections were hindered by strong opposition from China. Mr. Wu’s efforts significantly fostered dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.
Mr. Wu’s expertise in improving Taiwan-U.S. relations has been widely recognized, earning him praise for his deep understanding and commitment to international diplomacy. He attributes his success to being a good listener, a quality that has enabled him to build consensus and foster productive relationships throughout his career.
