Bettina Beatrice Wright, senior tax auditor for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in accounting and public service.
For more than 35 years, Ms. Wright has demonstrated the value of diligence and hard work through a lengthy career in public service. She became an auditor for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in 1989, just one month after graduating from college. Ms. Wright was initially drawn to accounting as a professional path by the promise of working across various industries and with companies of varying sizes, from small businesses to large corporations. She chose to pursue work with the Texas Comptroller specifically because she viewed it as an opportunity for a more selfless role and a way to give back to others outside of traditional charitable routes.
Building a strong reputation for excellence, Ms. Wright has remained with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts throughout the entirety of her career. She has become especially well-known for her in-depth expertise in the realm of Texas state tax laws and compliance. Ms. Wright has been lauded for her focus on efficiency and conducting effective audits quickly and thoughtfully. In recognition of her talents, she was promoted to her current position of senior tax auditor.
Ms. Wright has worked under six different comptrollers over the course of the past 35 years, showcasing her well-developed interpersonal skills. As a tax auditor, she collaborates with professionals across all levels, from company executives to lawyers to office managers to other accountants. Though based in Texas, Ms. Wright also often works with clients outside of the state who do some business in Texas. She has faced challenges throughout her journey but has developed resilience and a deep sense of satisfaction from her work.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Wright completed an education that she could rely upon in the future. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1988. Ms. Wright has further bolstered her credentials through her membership in the Black American Comptroller Employees Association and Executive Women in Texas Government. She also serves on the women’s council for Baylor University, where both of her sons are alumni.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Wright regularly donates to a number of organizations. She volunteers with local neighborhood cleanup efforts. She is additionally affiliated with the National Parent Teacher Association and the Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Ms. Wright has garnered several awards throughout her career. Most notably, she has received a Letter of Appreciation for a speaking engagement and has been presented with multiple Certificates of Appreciation from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Ms. Wright credits her success to her faith, determination and refusal to give up when circumstances are difficult. She emphasizes that she was raised to work hard and have confidence in herself.
Outside of her professional achievements, Ms. Wright is a loving mother to two adult sons and one grandson, a 9-year-old whom she deeply enjoys spending time with. Her other pastimes include playing softball, aerobics, Pilates, exercising, attending church and meeting new people. Proud of all she has accomplished, Ms. Wright has started planning for retirement in the years ahead. After retirement, she looks forward to focusing on being a grandmother and committing to more volunteer work in her community.
