Lisa Guy, senior designer at Goodmans, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in interior design.
When she was young, Ms. Guy had two strong interests: journalism and interior architecture. Many of her friends and family expected her to pursue a career in the former, but she always knew that her true calling was in the field of interior design. That passion has blossomed into 40 years of professional achievement for Ms. Guy, during which time she has worked for furniture dealerships and manufacturers in designing spaces across a wide variety of industries. With her focus on furniture, she likens life as an interior designer to being a detective: It requires thoughtful analysis, problem-solving and creativity to find a solution that works best for all involved.
Ms. Guy first established herself as a facilities designer for Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon beginning in 1985. She found great fulfillment working in the health care design space, where she felt that she made a meaningful impact on patients and their families. Particularly with her design of emergency room waiting areas that are often stressful locations with long wait times, Ms. Guy recognized the potential to make a difference simply by making those rooms just a little nicer to spend time in. She went on to contribute as an interior design project manager at Bainbridge Design, an interior design manager at Sienna Architecture Company, a territory manager at VPI Office Furniture Representatives, an account manager at Environetics, now doing business as ENV, an account executive at Pacific Office Furnishings and a key account manager at Hot Off the Press.
Further developing her expertise in sales, Ms. Guy became an account manager at Corporate Express Business Interiors in 2006. The next year, she returned to her role as an interior designer at the same company. Ms. Guy dedicated four years as an interior designer with Staples, followed by a year as a Southern Oregon health care specialist with Pacific Furnishings, now doing business as PacificWRO. She returned to Staples in 2014 for another four years as an account executive in the furniture department.
Following a brief tenure as a self-employed interior designer, Ms. Guy joined Goodmans, where she has served as a senior designer since 2019. Her responsibilities include overseeing large-scale projects, with a focus on the interior design of buildings operated by Maricopa County and other municipalities in the Phoenix area. Focused on positive outcomes, Ms. Guy emphasizes designing spaces that go beyond aesthetics and are functional for the people who work and spend time in them. She notes that the furniture she selects for Maricopa County is standardized across various types of buildings, from government buildings to jails to public health facilities, presenting a unique challenge in finding the right items to work across a range of settings.
Ms. Guy has been a member of several important organizations relevant to her field. She has previously held membership in the International Facility Management Association and the International Interior Design Association. Ms. Guy earned an Associate of Arts in interior design from The Art Institute of Portland, formerly Bassist College, in 1983. She is also committed to giving back to the community, regularly volunteering with United Way Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity International and Meals on Wheels America.
Outside of her career, Ms. Guy has been a dedicated wife for nearly 25 years and is a loving mother to four children. Despite an esteemed and extensive professional history, she has no intention of retiring in the immediate future and is eagerly awaiting further challenges and opportunities.
