Richard W. Burdett, Mobile Health Operations Management Specialist at Rutgers Cancer Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Operations Management.

Mr. Burdett has distinguished himself as a mobile health operations management specialist with ScreenNJ at Rutgers Cancer Institute in Piscataway, New Jersey, a position he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he is responsible for organizing and coordinating vendor services for mobile health initiatives, reaching out to clients and communities across New Jersey to schedule and plan events, and providing instructions, feedback and direction to various organizations involved in these efforts. Mr. Burdett’s expertise in customer service and mobile operations programs has been instrumental in the success of these initiatives.

Before joining Rutgers Cancer Institute, Mr. Burdett served in several key roles at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Between 2010 and 2013, he served as an airport operations agent, overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. From 2013 to 2023, he worked in procurement, managing purchasing processes and contributing to the organization’s operational efficiency. Additionally, Mr. Burdett served as a tunnel and bridge agent during his tenure at the Port Authority, further broadening his experience in transportation infrastructure management.

Mr. Burdett began his professional journey in the 1980s and 1990s and, in 2000, earned an associate degree in industrial electronics technology from DeVry University. He spent many years as a technical support engineer in customer service roles before a brief employment lapse following the events of September 11th. Inspired by a desire to contribute to his community, he applied to the Port Authority, which marked the beginning of his public service career and eventually led him to Rutgers University. In addition to his degree, Mr. Burdett holds a commercial driver’s license from the State of New Jersey and was ordained as a minister by The Universal Life Church Monastery in 2014.

Mr. Burdett considers his work with Rutgers Cancer Institute to be the most notable achievement of his career, having initially sought a retirement job after leaving the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey but ultimately finding it to be the most rewarding role he has ever held.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Burdett has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to civic engagement. He has volunteered as an auxiliary police officer and contributed time to organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, the Special Olympics in New Jersey and the Cancer Community Action Board. For three decades, Mr. Burdett also served on the board of directors of a nonprofit summer camp in upstate New York dedicated to underprivileged youth and was active on the board of the Lake Delaware Alumni Association.

Mr. Burdett has garnered success and recognition in photography, creating graphics and art related to politics, and exploring digital art in his personal time. His dedication has been recognized with honors, including the 2025 Show Up Initiative Award from Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Influenced from an early age by an Episcopal priest who became a lifelong mentor and by other Episcopal clergy, Mr. Burdett was guided toward a life of service. His parents also played a significant role in shaping his values, instilling in him the importance of community involvement and family commitment.

Mr. Burdett attributes his professional success to his willingness to embrace change, seek out new opportunities and foster personal growth. He emphasizes the importance of being present for others rather than expecting support in return. His readiness to take risks and step outside his comfort zone has enabled Mr. Burdett to make a meaningful impact on individuals, groups and organizations throughout his career.
