Richard W. Burdett, Mobile Health Operations Management Specialist at Rutgers University Cancer Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in operations management.

Mr. Burdett has distinguished himself as a mobile health operations management specialist with ScreenNJ at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a role he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he oversees the coordination of vendor services for mobile health initiatives, engages with clients and communities across the state to schedule and organize events, and provides guidance, feedback, and direction to partner organizations. His extensive expertise in customer service and mobile operations has been central to the continued success and expansion of these programs.

Before joining Rutgers Cancer Institute, Mr. Burdett built a notable career with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. From 2003 to 2009, he served in transportation operations and emergency services across multiple tunnels, bridges, and terminals, ensuring safe and efficient daily operations. Between 2009 and 2022, he contributed to procurement and warehouse operations, supporting the agency’s maintenance and operational readiness. His tenure also included service as an operations agent at various bi-state airports, tunnels, bridges, and the bus terminal, broadening his experience in complex transportation infrastructure management.

Mr. Burdett began his professional career in the 1980s and completed his studies in industrial electronics technology at DeVry University in 1990. He spent many years as a technical support engineer in customer service roles before a brief employment lapse following the events of September 11th. Deeply moved by the response to the tragedy and motivated to serve his community, he applied to the Port Authority—an act that launched his public service career and ultimately led him to Rutgers University. He also holds a Certification in Health Care Provider Basic Life Support, a Class A commercial driver’s license from the State of New Jersey and was ordained as an interfaith minister by The Universal Life Church Monastery in 2014.

Mr. Burdett regards his work with the Rutgers Cancer Institute as the most meaningful achievement of his career. What began as a pre-retirement opportunity after leaving the Port Authority has become the most rewarding role of his long career.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Burdett has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to civic engagement. He has volunteered as an auxiliary police officer and supported organizations including the Kiwanis Club, Special Olympics New Jersey, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute Cancer Community Action Board. For more than 30 years, he served on the board of directors that supports a nonprofit summer camp in upstate New York dedicated to underprivileged youth and has been an active member and volunteer supporting the work of the Lake Delaware Alumni Association, Inc. since 1983.

Mr. Burdett is also an accomplished and published photographer, creating work that spans landscapes, nature, politics, and digital art. His creative contributions and professional dedication have earned recognition from numerous organizations, including the 2025 Show Up Initiative Award from Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Influenced early in life by an Episcopal bishop and priest who became lifelong mentors—as well as by other clergy—Mr. Burdett was guided toward a life of service. His parents further shaped his values, instilling in him a deep commitment to community and family.

Mr. Burdett attributes his success to his willingness to embrace change, pursue new opportunities, and cultivate personal growth. He emphasizes the importance of showing up for others without expectation and credits his readiness to take risks and step outside his comfort zone as key to the meaningful impact he has made on individuals, organizations, and communities throughout his life and career.

Throughout his career, Mr. Burdett has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a collaborative spirit. His ability to navigate complex operational challenges with a calm and strategic approach has earned him the respect of colleagues and partners alike. He is known for fostering inclusive environments where diverse perspectives are valued and innovation thrives.

In his role at Rutgers Cancer Institute, Mr. Burdett has spearheaded initiatives that have significantly increased community engagement and accessibility to vital health services. His efforts have helped bridge gaps between healthcare providers and underserved populations, ensuring that critical screenings and educational programs reach those most in need.

Mr. Burdett’s commitment to continuous learning and professional development is evident in his pursuit of advanced certifications and participation in industry conferences. He actively mentors emerging professionals, sharing his knowledge and encouraging the next generation of leaders in health operations and community service.

Outside of work, Mr. Burdett enjoys exploring his passion for photography, often combining his artistic eye with his dedication to social causes by documenting community events and highlighting stories of resilience and hope. His work not only enriches cultural conversations but also serves as a powerful tool for advocacy and awareness.

Looking ahead, Mr. Burdett remains dedicated to expanding the impact of mobile health initiatives, community activism and fostering partnerships that promote equity and wellness. His vision includes leveraging technology and community collaboration to create sustainable health solutions that empower individuals and transform lives.
