Tommy Dewayne Jones, Global Reliability Leader and Hydraulic Subject Matter Expert at International Paper, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Reliability Engineering.

Mr. Jones has established a distinguished career spanning over 40 years in reliability, lubrication and hydraulics. His expertise is widely recognized, and he is praised for achieving a level of mastery that sets him apart as a subject matter expert in these critical industrial disciplines.

Mr. Jones has established a distinguished reputation in his field. Since 2009, he has served as a global reliability leader, a lubrication and hydraulic system subject matter expert at International Paper and Georgia Pacific. In this capacity, he has demonstrated exceptional skill in addressing complex operational challenges that often hinder customers, progress for owners, designers, installers and process control teams. Notably, his signature ability to identify root causes of persistent issues has led to the implementation of effective plans that eliminate roadblocks, reduce downtime and foster smoother operations within facilities.

Mr. Jones considers his top achievement to be the reduction of stress for facility team members by resolving recurring failures, allowing organizations to advance efficiently and with greater confidence. He has developed and implemented a new process he has named the “Run Strategy.” This strategy is system and equipment specific. Once implemented, processes and equipment failures are eliminated by alerting deviation from designed operation. “We can be either: The victim of failures or the victim of success,” said Mr. Jones.

Before progressing to his current role, Mr. Jones excelled in the Steel Mill industry, subsea oil exploration, power generation, paper industry and technology fields. During this period, he developed a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, electrical, lubrication, hydraulics and process control systems. He honed his technical abilities, forging the foundation for his advancement in the reliability engineering and process improvement arena.

In each appointment, Mr. Jones relies on exceptional training and distinct certifications in maintenance leadership, advanced hydraulic system control and design, in the lubrication field and oil analysis predictive strategies. He is recognized as a fluid power specialist supporting over 200 facilities across 7 individual divisions 24/7. He is highly sought during upset conditions affecting operations.

Mr. Jones’s many meaningful contributions have been recognized by international originations, which honored him with several Lubrication Excellence Awards. He attributes his success thus far to a steadfast determination to win and an openness to recognizing his own limitations. Mr. Jones describes himself as a man of faith, curious, versatile, humorous, and adaptable. He acknowledges that a healthy perspective has enabled him to approach challenges with humility and continually expanding his knowledge while sharing with others. “To learn is to teach, to teach is to learn,” said Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones has been instrumental in developing/testing of new lubricants oils/greases with the target to eliminate 65 percent of identified bearing failures across industry. “These new products will create an industrial revolution with reducing bearing failures once marketed” he said. He will persist in his work to merge technical expertise, practical experience and best practices to drive advancements in industry.

A desire to serve prompts Mr. Jones to pursue opportunities for civic engagement. He has volunteered with the Royal Ambassadors and served as a volunteer coach and mentor for girls’ softball and baseball teams, demonstrating a commitment to advocacy and to youth development. Looking toward the future, he will continue to engage with industrial lubrication leaders as part of his ongoing dedication to professional growth and collaboration within his fields.
