Mr. Zylka has established himself in fire and industrial safety, marked by progressive leadership and a commitment to public service. Since June 2025, he has served as the fire safety manager at HL-GA Battery Company, overseeing comprehensive fire safety protocols and incident command operations. In this capacity, Mr. Zylka applies his extensive expertise to ensure the safety of personnel and assets, drawing on nearly three decades of experience in emergency response and risk management.
In addition to his recent contributions at HL-GA Battery Company, Mr. Zylka has served as the owner of Industrial Safety LLC, a consulting firm, since 2002. Over more than 20 years, he has grown the business to employ 65 professionals, providing specialized services in fire safety consulting, confined space rescue, site safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration training, compliance, fire watch and hole watch. Mr. Zylka’s firm’s reach extends along the East Coast from Connecticut to Florida, reflecting his reputation as an expert in fire and industrial safety.
Mr. Zylka briefly worked for Resolve Marine in early 2025. As the health and safety officer on a vessel involved in a significant maritime incident, he was responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations aboard the ship that struck a bridge.
Mr. Zylka’s public service career began in 1997 as a hazmat responder for Middlesex County, New Jersey, contributing to fire investigations during critical incidents. He also shared his knowledge as a fire instructor at Middlesex County Fire Academy from 1999 to 2005, shaping future generations of emergency responders.
Beyond these roles, Mr. Zylka enjoyed a tenured career as a firefighter with the City of Perth Amboy Fire Department in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Hired in 1999, he advanced through the ranks from a firefighter to first lieutenant in 2009 and later a captain. By 2011, Mr. Zylka was appointed chief of operations for the department, overseeing both administrative functions and operational readiness. Over the course of more than two decades with the Perth Amboy Fire Department, Mr. Zylka’s career culminated in his appointment as fire chief. He was instrumental in establishing the Fire Investigation Bureau in 2018 before retiring.
Mr. Zylka’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a bachelor’s degree in fire science and firefighting from the University of New Haven in 1995 after graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1990. His academic pursuits were complemented by numerous certifications from the state of New Jersey between 1990 and 2019, including as a level three incident commander, firefighter I, fire inspector, hazardous materials technician and fire investigator. These credentials have been integral to Mr. Zylka’s ability to lead complex operations and maintain high safety standards.
Actively involved in civic organizations and labor associations, Mr. Zylka is a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 299 in Perth Amboy and has held leadership positions, including past president and vice president of Perth Amboy Local 286 of the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey. Additionally, he is a past president and state delegate for Professional Firefighters of The Villages International Association of Firefighters Local 4770, and a former vice president of the Middlesex County Firefighters Association International Association of Firefighters Local 3451. Mr. Zylka’s philanthropic efforts include supporting community initiatives through charitable donations.
Throughout his career, Mr. Zylka has demonstrated expertise in fire and emergency rescue, vehicle rescue and site safety. His contributions have been recognized with several accolades, including a Union of the Year Award from the Perth Amboy Local 286 Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey, a Valor Award for Lifesaving, a Childbirth Award, and a Shield Award from the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Zylka attributes his success to hard work, determination and an unwavering commitment to honesty and fairness. Early in his entrepreneurial journey, Mr. Zylka built trust through personal relationships rather than formal contracts, an approach rooted in integrity and respect for others.
Born in Perth Amboy, Mr. Zylka looks forward to retirement with his wife, who is a retired teacher from New Jersey. He remains committed to cherishing time with loved ones and embracing new opportunities for relaxation and family enjoyment in the years ahead.
