Mr. Rosenthal has established himself as a leader in his field, defined by more than three decades of service and expertise in law enforcement, risk mitigation and tactical operations. As the owner and founder of Altitude Risk Mitigation, LLC, since 2019, he leads the development and delivery of customized training and consulting solutions that enhance leadership, operational capability and risk management for public-safety agencies and private-sector organizations. Mr. Rosenthal’s commitment to strengthening these critical areas is rooted in his extensive experience and deep understanding of the demands of high-risk professions.
Leveraging his extensive background, Mr. Rosenthal was a sergeant in the major crimes unit at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in Spokane, Washington, from 2016 to 2019. In this capacity, he supervised complex investigations, provided guidance to detectives and ensured the highest standards of professionalism in addressing serious criminal cases. His earlier tenure as a SWAT team leader, tactical sergeant and commander between 1999 and 2019 was marked by two decades of operational excellence, culminating in his retirement as SWAT commander. During this period, Mr. Rosenthal was responsible for leading high-risk operations, developing tactical strategies and mentoring team members. This experience shaped his philosophy on leadership as a core pillar of success.
Mr. Rosenthal began his law enforcement career with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy from 1995 to 1999, where he developed a strong commitment to public service and community protection, followed by the role of deputy sheriff until 2011, during which he developed foundational skills in policing, community engagement and crisis response. Concurrently, Mr. Rosenthal operated as an undercover operator with the Drug Enforcement Administration task force between 1999 and 2007, contributing significantly to clandestine methamphetamine laboratory investigations and undercover operations.
From 2007 to 2012, Mr. Rosenthal was a motorcycle patrol deputy and collision reconstructionist, a role that involved traffic enforcement, accident analysis and public safety outreach. Between 2012 and 2014, Mr. Rosenthal served as a detective major crimes investigator, handling complex cases that required meticulous attention to detail and advanced investigative skills. Then, from 2015 to 2016, he held the position of sergeant in the sexual assault unit and Internet Crimes Against Children task force at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. He oversaw sensitive investigations involving vulnerable populations and coordinated efforts with specialized teams to ensure justice for victims. From there, Mr. Rosenthal became a sergeant in the patrol division in 2014, managing frontline law enforcement personnel, maintaining public safety standards and responding to emergent incidents throughout the community.
Before entering law enforcement, Mr. Rosenthal served with distinction in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1982 to 1986. The values of discipline, resilience and servant leadership learned during his military service have remained central throughout his professional journey.
Mr. Rosenthal holds a veteran-owned small business certification from the state of Washington as well as a service-disabled veteran-owned small business certification. These credentials underscore his dedication to excellence in both public service and entrepreneurship. Beyond these credentials, Mr. Rosenthal is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Leadership Council of the National Small Business Association, the Washington State Tactical Officers Association, and the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.
Active civically, Mr. Rosenthal volunteers as a mentor with the Police Athletic League, supporting youth development through positive engagement with law enforcement professionals. He also volunteers with the Community Military Appreciation Committee, fostering connections between military personnel, veterans and local communities. As an author, Mr. Rosenthal published “Thin Lines: Critical Incident Response – Command and Control,” sharing insights gained from years of experience managing high-stakes situations.
Mr. Rosenthal’s expertise encompasses risk mitigation, law enforcement consultation, leadership development and tactical operations. He is recognized for achieving a high level of proficiency in these areas through continuous learning and practical application. Throughout his career, Mr. Rosenthal has been honored with numerous awards highlighting his work, including the Sheriff Star, the highest honor bestowed in Spokane County, two Unit Merit Awards for contributions during the clandestine methamphetamine laboratory war and undercover operations, and a Lifesaving Award for rescuing an individual who attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge before catching him mid-air and pulling him back onto safety, as well as multiple citations recognizing exemplary service.
Attributing his success not only to formal training but also to lessons learned through adversity, Mr. Rosenthal recognizes that setbacks are integral to growth and credits his ability to learn from failure as a driving force behind his accomplishments.
