Mr. Arulfo’s professional journey is marked by a distinguished record of leadership and innovation in enterprise architecture, artificial intelligence (AI) and business architecture. With over 25 years of experience, he has established himself as an expert in these fields and consistently advances the organizations he serves.

Since 2023, Mr. Arulfo has served as a principal enterprise architect in the Office of the Chief Information Officer at Boston Scientific, a $15 billion company. In this capacity, he is one of four full-time principal architects responsible for providing strategic technical guidance to global information technology leaders, with a particular focus on AI and enterprise architecture. He is entrusted with high-impact initiatives that are carefully selected and approved by the chief information officer, ensuring that his work delivers significant benefits across Boston Scientific’s worldwide operations. Additionally, Mr. Arulfo collaborates closely with business unit leadership to align their objectives with the chief information officer’s technical architecture goals, fostering a unified strategy that bridges technical and business priorities.

Further recognizing his expertise and leadership, Mr. Arulfo has served as the co-chair of the GenAI Architecture Tiger Team within Boston Scientific’s Enterprise AI Community of Practice since 2023. In this capacity, he has helped shape the company’s approach to generative AI and its integration into enterprise solutions. Notably, Mr. Arulfo served as a lead architect for an enterprise-wide virtual assistant powered by AOI. This groundbreaking project assists physicians by providing critical information about Boston Scientific products during surgical preparations. This initiative earned Mr. Arulfo recognition from the company’s chief executive officer, underscoring his commitment to technological advancement and improved health care support systems.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr. Arulfo has made significant contributions to Minnesota’s technology startup ecosystem. Since 2023, he has served as the executive chair of the board of directors at Beta MN, Minnesota’s oldest and largest technical startup accelerator. Under Mr. Arulfo’s leadership, Beta MN supports tech startup founders statewide through funding from corporations and government entities, reflecting his passion for fostering innovation in the local tech community. He previously served as the vice chair for strategic partnerships in 2023 and as director overseeing the Optum partnership from 2022 to 2023.

Before joining Boston Scientific, Mr. Arulfo was the chief technology officer and strategic adviser for cloud, data, AI architecture and information technology strategy at UnitedHealth Group’s Optum EveryCare from 2022 to 2023. He also served as the principal AI enterprise architect in the Office of the Chief Information Officer at OptumHealth between 2021 and 2023 and co-chaired Shades in Technology at UnitedHealth Group during this period. Mr. Arulfo’s earlier roles at UnitedHealth Group included co-chairing the Business Event Architecture Streaming Tech Coalition from 2020 to 2022, serving as the senior AI enterprise architect in the UnitedHealthcare Office of the Chief Information Officer between 2019 and 2022, and acting as the senior enterprise business architect for claims platforms from 2018 to 2019.

Between 2016 and 2018, Mr. Arulfo was a senior technology product manager for the Optum Tech Big Data Platform engineering teams at UnitedHealth Group, following his role as a technical product owner for Optum Tech Consumer Healthcare Markets from 2015 to 2016. He also contributed as an enterprise business architect for marketing technology at The Marek Group’s Office of the chief marketing officer in 2015 and 2016, and was a senior consultant in the health care practice at Q Consulting during the same period.

Among numerous other leading positions, Mr. Arulfo worked for companies such as Express Scripts by Evernorth, Prime Therapeutics and Datasite. Earlier in his career, he founded Beowulf InfoSystems LLC in 2002 and managed it for more than a decade until 2013 while undertaking consulting engagements. He also contributed as a senior product owner for global health care products at Mayo Clinic Rochester and as a principal business analyst for public housing markets at the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. Mr. Arulfo began his career in 1998 at 3M as a software engineer in the medical devices group of its health care division.

Mr. Arulfo’s academic background is extensive and reflects his commitment to lifelong learning. He earned a Bachelor of Science in business and risk management from St. Cloud State University, followed by an ABT master’s degree at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, with coursework focused on leadership and management. He also completed a mini master’s program specializing in medical technology through the University of St. Thomas. Mr. Arulfo furthered his expertise through specialized programs, including a user experience strategy course in the UX Intensive Program at the University of California, Berkeley, a diploma in politics and economics from Georgetown University, and a diploma in European culture and society from KU Leuven.

Beyond his primary education, Mr. Arulfo’s dedication has been evident through advanced certifications, such as the AI for business Mini-MBA completed through The Section School under Scott Galloway and Greg Shove, a technology architecture certification through the University of California, Berkeley, and, among others, a professional accreditation focused on business architecture via Metro State University.

Mr. Arulfo holds a chartered membership in the Chief Architect Forum and is a founding member of the Chief Architect Network, both industry organizations that foster collaboration among top professionals in enterprise architecture. Beyond work, civic engagement is central to his values. He volunteers with the American Heart Association and contributes time toward various community health initiatives.

Throughout his career, Mr. Arulfo has received numerous awards. Among his most recent accolades, he earned a Bravo! Collaboration Award with the United Strategic Platform Engineering Team Leadership in 2020, a Bravo! Performance Award with the United Healthcare Enterprise Architecture Team in the Office of the Chief Information Officer in 2021, and a Bravo! Leadership Award with the United Healthcare Enterprise Architecture Team in the Office of the Chief Information Officer in 2022. In 2023, he was honored to receive the Bravo! Relationship Award with the OptumHealth Enterprise Architect Team. Mr. Arulfo was also recognized with the Boston Scientific Chief Executive Officer Winning Spirit Award in 2024. His achievements have been shaped not only by personal resilience but also by an unwavering belief that education is foundational for success.
