Lloyd L. Pipersburgh, MBA, Retired Detective First Grade at the New York City Police Department, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Law Enforcement.

Mr. Pipersburgh’s distinguished career in law enforcement and public service spans nearly four decades, marked by a steadfast commitment to integrity, community engagement and professional advancement. Beginning in 2015, he served as a detective first grade with the New York City Police Department (NYPD), a role that capped his historic achievement as the first native-born Belizean to attain this rank. In this capacity, Mr. Pipersburgh was instrumental in supporting surviving families of line-of-duty deaths, serving as the department’s longest-serving liaison. His work included daily contact with families and field representatives, ensuring that officers’ sacrifices are never forgotten and that their children receive guidance on college scholarships. Mr. Pipersburgh officially retired from the force in June 2025.

From 2011 to 2025, Mr. Pipersburgh also served as the NYPD liaison to the Silver Shield Foundation, bringing nearly a quarter-century of experience and support to both established and emerging groups within the organization. Concurrently, between 2002 and 2025, he served as the unit technology officer for the NYPD, applying his passion for technology to enhance human resources and streamline departmental operations. From 2009 to 2020, Mr. Pipersburgh represented the NYPD on the Police Foundation Scholarship Board at the New York City Police Foundation, Inc., where he played a pivotal role in helping line-of-duty children qualify for educational opportunities.

Mr. Pipersburgh’s earlier tenure as a coordinator of the Integrity Review Board between 2006 and 2018 stands out as one of his proudest achievements. This initiative, rooted in recommendations from the Knapp Commission’s investigation into police corruption, recognized officers who displayed exceptional integrity, such as those who refused bribes, thereby boosting morale and reinforcing ethical standards within the force.

Recognizing his progression through the ranks, Mr. Pipersburgh’s career included service as a detective specialist from 2003 to 2010, followed by service as a detective second grade until 2015. His early years included roles as a field training officer with the Transit Police and with the NYPD, following his initial appointment as a police officer with the New York City Transit Police and his subsequent transfer to the NYPD after departmental consolidation. Mr. Pipersburgh’s journey began in public service as an auxiliary police officer with the NYPD in 1988. Among other noteworthy roles, he was influential as a law instructor and tutor at the NYPD Police Academy between 1996 and 2000.

Mr. Pipersburgh’s academic background included completed coursework in architecture at Brooklyn Technical High School in 1980. Following his undergraduate degree, he earned a Master of Business Administration in public administration from Hodges University in 2024. Mr. Pipersburgh further enhanced his expertise through industry credentials, including a certification as a police instructor in instructional methods from the Division of Criminal Justice Services of the State of New York. He also completed training in gang investigation, auto crime, quality assurance and criminal investigation, as well as a specialized protective security course in dignitary protection.

Throughout his career, Mr. Pipersburgh has remained active as a member of the NYPD Hispanic Society and as a life member of the Detectives’ Endowment Association. He also joined the inaugural class of the Bishop’s Leadership Project out of the Diocese of Brooklyn under Bishop Francis J. Mugavero in 1979. The program was designed to cultivate young black leaders citywide. Two years later, Mr. Pipersburgh became one of its retreat coordinators, which led to local activism and public speaking engagements at Catholic high schools throughout New York City. He also directed missionary activities beginning in 1980, managed homeless shelter operations, and taught religious education classes for youth and young men. Moreover, Mr. Pipersburgh founded The Celestials Theater Group at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, in 1981.

As a motivational speaker since 1984 at Brooklyn and Queens high schools and churches, Mr. Pipersburgh has inspired countless individuals through storytelling and advocacy for community-police collaboration. His success has been recognized with multiple Company Instructor Appreciation Awards from the NYPD Police Academy for his dedication to training recruits. Mr. Pipersburgh was also named Detective of the Month by The Detectives’ Endowment Association, Inc., in 2013, was recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Office of Inspector Chaplain NYPD in 2022, and, among other accolades, received an Outstanding Service Award from Police & Fire Line of Duty Widows of New York City Inc. in 2024.

Mr. Pipersburgh attributes his success to strong communication skills, visionary thinking and an authentic love for others. Looking ahead, he aims to join the NYPD’s management team in a civilian capacity and to expand recognition programs, such as the Integrity Review Board, to ensure officers are celebrated not only for resisting corruption but also for consistently doing what is right when no one is looking. Mr. Pipersburgh hopes his legacy will be defined by transformative ideas, attentive listening and an unwavering commitment to nurturing potential within others.
