Recruited to Missouri Star Quilt Co. in 2022, Ms. Ventura previously excelled as the vice president of merchandising at GameStop from 2018 to 2022. In this capacity, she oversaw key merchandising strategies. Ms. Ventura’s expertise in product selection and market analysis helped the company adapt to evolving consumer trends.

For over five years, Ms. Ventura held the position of vice president, general merchandising manager at The Michaels Companies, Inc., between 2012 and 2018, following her tenure as the vice president of product development, sourcing and trend from 2010 to 2012. Earlier, Ms. Ventura worked for The Michaels Companies, Inc., as a director of product development between 2008 and 2010 and as a category director from 2006 to 2008. During her time at Michaels, Ms. Ventura achieved several notable milestones, including developing the Martha Stewart craft line, a project that required weekly travel to New Jersey for a year, and playing a pivotal role in expanding Michaels’ private brands and direct imports to encompass 12 brands with sales exceeding $2 billion. Her efforts were instrumental in facilitating the company’s transition from private to public ownership.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Ventura was divisional merchandise manager at The Bombay Company from 1998 to 2006. Among her proudest accomplishments was the creation of Bombay Kids in 2001, an online and e-commerce venture launched without a designer and with limited resources. Ms. Ventura successfully introduced the first two catalogs within months and operated the business profitably from inception, leading to the opening of a physical store within 90 days, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision.

Ms. Ventura began her professional journey as a buyer at Bloomingdale’s in the 1990s. She worked on high-profile projects such as the Christmas shops and benefited from mentorship by seasoned professionals, experiences that shaped her approach to integrating creativity with business strategy.

In preparation for her future, Ms. Ventura earned a Bachelor of Science in business marketing and a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1990. Her education provided a strong foundation for her multifaceted career by equipping her with analytical skills and creative communication abilities essential for success in merchandising and brand management.

Throughout her career, Ms. Ventura has been an active member of industry organizations, including Women in Retail, reflecting her commitment to professional development and networking within her field. Beyond her professional achievements, she is dedicated to civic engagement through volunteer work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Young Men’s Service League. Ms. Ventura has also contributed thought leadership as a keynote speaker at the Kids Today Conference.

Ms. Ventura attributes much of her success to seizing opportunities as they arise. Her career is distinguished by her ability to merge creativity with strategic insight, qualities that have driven numerous successful ventures and left a lasting impact on the retail industry.
