Company: BNP Paribas Asset Management
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
Christian Fay, Senior Portfolio Manager at BNP Paribas Asset Management, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Portfolio Management and Investments.
Mr. Fay has established a notable career in portfolio management, marked by more than three decades of expertise in financial analysis, stock selection within the health care sector, biotechnology and medical technology. For over five years, he has served as a senior portfolio manager at BNP Paribas Asset Management in Boston, Massachusetts. In this capacity, Mr. Fay manages institutional client portfolios, oversees equity transactions and is responsible for managing portfolio risk.
In addition to his primary management responsibilities, Mr. Fay serves on the investment committee that oversees all funds within BNP Paribas Asset Management. His most notable achievement is his consistent record of delivering strong performance year after year, regularly surpassing benchmarks and adding significant value to client portfolios. This sustained success reflects Mr. Fay’s disciplined investment approach, analytical rigor and unwavering commitment to achieving long-term results for clients.
Before being recruited by BNP, Mr. Fay was a portfolio manager and senior health care analyst at BNY Mellon/The Boston Company, a global financial services platform company, in Boston from 2015 to 2018. There, he honed his expertise in health care equities and contributed to the firm’s investment strategies through rigorous research and analysis. Earlier, Mr. Fay excelled as a portfolio manager and senior analyst at BNP Paribas in Boston between 2013 and 2015. In this position, he played a key role in developing and managing assets focused on the health care and biotechnology sectors.
Between 2006 and 2013, Mr. Fay worked as an equity analyst specializing in health care at Pioneer Investments in Boston. He also served as the vice president of institutional health care consulting at Leerink Partners, a highly specialized health care investment bank, from 2001 to 2006, at the firm’s headquarters in Boston. Earlier, Mr. Fay was a senior health care consultant at Kendall Strategies in Cambridge, Massachusetts, starting in 1999. He spent several years advising clients on biotechnology trends and market opportunities for drugs, diagnostics and devices.
Mr. Fay’s earlier success included his roles at the Massachusetts Department of Health in Boston, initially as a bacteriologist at the department’s Jamaica Plain facility from 1995 to 1996, working primarily in the HIV laboratory. In 1996, he became the assistant chief of staff and assistant director of communications, where he managed communications strategies for public health campaigns. Then, between 1998 and 1999, Mr. Fay served as a senior manager for the department, during which he contributed to public health initiatives at the state level.
Choosing to pivot into finance, Mr. Fay’s transition followed a purposeful transition from public health roles, including laboratory work and communications, into consulting for biotechnology firms before ultimately moving into financial services. Motivated by a desire for greater impact and autonomy over outcomes, he sought positions where he could act on his analyses rather than merely advise others, leading him into portfolio management, where accountability and meaningful results are paramount.
Mr. Fay’s academic background is both comprehensive and multidisciplinary. His undergraduate studies culminated in a Bachelor of Arts in economics from The George Washington University in 1992. Subsequently, he received a Master of Science in neurobiology and anatomy from Loyola University Chicago, followed by a Master of Public Health in health policy and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Boston University. This diverse educational foundation has enabled Mr. Fay to bridge scientific innovation with financial acumen throughout his career.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Fay has been civically engaged as the treasurer on the board of directors of Chappaquiddick Community Center in Massachusetts since 2023. Located in Edgartown, it serves as a gathering place for members to enjoy social, recreational and educational programs.
Persistence has been central to Mr. Fay’s achievements. His drive and refusal to accept defeat have propelled him through challenges across multiple disciplines. Initially drawn to science but not to medicine or traditional economics alone, Mr. Fay found fulfillment where these interests converged, applying financial analysis directly in scientific industries such as biotechnology and health care.
Looking ahead, Mr. Fay intends to continue making meaningful contributions to his clients while supporting the Chappaquiddick Community Center through dedicated leadership and prioritizing time with his family. Each of these core commitments defines both his professional legacy and personal values.
