Title: Mortgage Adviser
Company: Luminate Bank
Location: Lakewood Ranch, Florida, United States
David McLaughlin, Mortgage Adviser at Luminate Bank, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the Mortgage and Real Estate Sectors.
Mr. McLaughlin has established a distinguished career marked by more than three decades of expertise and a steadfast commitment to client service. In 2026, he assumed the role of mortgage adviser at Luminate Bank, an FDIC-insured institution, where he enhances customers’ economic well-being while serving as both a wealth-building coach and a trusted adviser. In this capacity, Mr. McLaughlin develops tailored strategies for first-time buyers, move-up buyers and relocating clients, managing a book of business comparable to that of a financial adviser. He maintains continuous involvement in clients’ mortgage needs by treating each closing as the beginning of a long-term advisory relationship, providing ongoing support and education as market conditions evolve.
Operating under a relationship-driven, advisory-first mortgage model developed over several years, Mr. McLaughlin distinguishes his practice from typical industry standards. As the team’s primary rainmaker, he leads business development efforts by meeting with real estate professionals, financial advisers, certified public accountants and past clients to cultivate referral relationships. He builds his pipeline through approximately 20 outbound calls daily and at least two in-person meetings per day, closely monitoring call-to-appointment ratios and overall team performance. Overseeing team operations, Mr. McLaughlin ensures accountability, execution and excellence in client service.
Mr. McLaughlin is especially skilled at assisting first-time homebuyers by identifying down payment assistance programs and strategically combining them with seller credits. This approach enabled buyers with limited upfront funds to enter the market despite rising prices and interest rates. Recognizing that affordability remains a primary obstacle due to rising prices and interest rates, Mr. McLaughlin prioritizes educating clients on available assistance options so they can confidently transition from renting to homeownership.
Before joining Luminate Bank, Mr. McLaughlin served as a senior mortgage loan officer at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation from 2023 to 2026. During this period, he continued to refine his expertise in working with self-employed borrowers, a segment that presents unique qualification challenges due to nontraditional income documentation. Mr. McLaughlin’s ability to leverage alternative documentation methods and specialized loan products, such as nonqualified mortgages or qualified mortgage loans, has positioned him as an expert in this area.
From 2018 to 2023, Mr. McLaughlin excelled as a senior loan officer at NFM Lending, LLC, a nationally recognized, award-winning mortgage lender headquartered in Maryland, where he further developed his skills in assisting homebuyers throughout the purchasing process. Earlier, Mr. McLaughlin served as a senior loan officer at Inlanta Mortgage, now Guild Mortgage, between 2014 and 2018, following his role as a senior loan officer at Home Mortgage Loans with Wells Fargo, one of the nation’s largest financial institutions, from 2011 to 2014.
Before focusing exclusively on mortgages, Mr. McLaughlin spent over 15 years as a real estate agent and broker. As the broker-owner of Cityscapes International Realty Group from 2008 to 2011, he managed all aspects of brokerage operations while guiding clients through complex transactions. Mr. McLaughlin previously worked as a broker associate-realtor at Michael Saunders & Company between 2000 and 2008 and at RE/MAX, LLC, from 1997 to 2000. He began his career as a realtor with Sam J. Parisi, Licensed Real Estate Broker, in 1994.
Mr. McLaughlin’s educational foundation was established at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in real estate, finance and business law in 1994. During his time on campus, he was a dedicated collegiate football player for five years, a formative experience that instilled discipline, teamwork and leadership skills that continue to inform his approach today. Additionally, Mr. McLaughlin is licensed as a mortgage loan adviser and loan originator authorized to operate in all 50 states, a milestone that has enabled him to expand his services nationwide after previously focusing primarily on Florida.
Active in his professional community, Mr. McLaughlin is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the National Association of Realtors, reflecting his commitment to professional excellence and industry engagement. Civically invested, he engages in volunteer work supporting charities, such as Change for Children, and local environmental beach cleanup efforts. Mr. McLaughlin has also contributed significantly as a youth soccer coach with Braden River Soccer Club, FC Sarasota, the Chargers Soccer Club and West Pasco FC, and through service with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Throughout his career, Mr. McLaughlin has completed thousands of transactions across both real estate sales and mortgage lending, enabling him to provide clarity, anticipate challenges and minimize surprises for his clients. He views himself as a long-term adviser committed to guiding individuals through their real estate journeys rather than facilitating one-time transactions. Mr. McLaughlin’s professional fulfillment is derived from witnessing numerous clients build wealth through real estate.
Mr. McLaughlin’s achievements have earned him national recognition as one of the Top 1% of Mortgage Originators in America for three consecutive years between 2022 and 2024. Notably, he consistently averages between 105 and 110 closings per year in challenging markets.
Attributing much of his success to the lessons his parents instilled in him about hard work and perseverance, Mr. McLaughlin believes that meaningful accomplishments are achieved through effort rather than entitlement. He also regularly studies the experiences of accomplished individuals who have overcome various setbacks and draws inspiration from works such as “The Secret,” which emphasizes the power of belief and intentional goal setting.
Looking ahead, Mr. McLaughlin intends to connect with like-minded professionals and elevate conversations around mortgage strategy. He also envisions continued success in helping clients build wealth, one loan at a time. Ultimately, Mr. McLaughlin looks forward to leaving a legacy within the industry that reflects the meaningful impact he has had on his community.
