Michael Bevis, Chief Procurement Officer for the City of Norfolk, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in regional administration.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Bevis attended Lincoln Memorial University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and English literature in 1983. He went on to study at the Georgetown University Law Center, graduating with a JD in 1986, and started as a member and instructor of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing in 1991, where he continues to serve currently. In 2000, Mr. Bevis became the chief procurement officer for the City of Naperville, a post he held for fifteen years, and subsequently spent three years as a purchasing agent for Arlington County. Since 2018, he has worked as the chief procurement officer for the City of Norfolk. Throughout his career, he has learned the importance of patience in government service, as things rarely move quickly.
Mr. Bevis has been recognized for his achievements with numerous awards and accolades, including the 2011 Lewis E Spangler Purchasing Professional Award, the 2005 NIGP Manager of the Year Award, the 2004 IAPPO Manager of the Year Award and the Impact Award from the Chicago Minority Development Council, among others. In addition to his primary professional pursuits, he has served as the chairman of the board for the National Institute of Government Purchasing as well as the Center of Job Boarding Excellence, and has maintained membership to the Local Standards Board of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply. Mr. Bevis has committed his life to service, and is focused on finding ways to positively impact communities through the proper use of public dollars. He would like to continue his work, and serve as a mentor for the upcoming generations.
