Alex Ford, President and Board Member at R.D. Ford Foundation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corrections.
While enrolled at the San Diego State University, Mr. Ford was impacted by a presentation given by a probation officer to his juvenile delinquency class, and soon after chose to fully pursued a career in corrections. He achieved a BA in applied arts and sciences and recreational administration from San Diego State and went on to earn his MA in correctional counseling in 1982 from Chapman University. Notably, from 1974 to 2011, for 37 years, Mr. Ford served the Department of Los Angeles County as a probation officer, where he garnered deep respect and appreciation for his service.
Following achieving his BA, Mr. Ford was among the inaugural group of professionals to pass the Board of Behavioral Science Examiner’s “Registered Recreator,” a State of California professional achievement in 1969. Additionally, Mr. Ford was a sworn member of the U.S. Naval Reserve during his college years and officially became a California Licensed Private Investigator in 1975. In 1981, he became certified by the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as a professional California Marriage and Family Therapist. Mr. Ford attributes the success of his career to honesty, integrity and a genuine desire to help others.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Ford received numerous honors and recognitions, such as being named a Master Expert by the Executive Director of the L. A. County Intensive Gang Supervision Unit in 2006. In 2004, he was honored as Journeyman of the Year and, in 2005, the Department’s Enhancement and Recognition Committee granted him the Silver Award of Excellence. Additionally, he was recognized by El Camino High School for Outstanding Support for the 2003-2004 School Year. Mr. Ford holds membership with the Porsche Club of American, Labor Union Local 685, El Camino Real and San Diego State University Alumni. Previously, he served on the Acceptance Board at Las Palmas, while being a caseworker, and he also volunteered for work in the specialized Gang supervision unit, resulting in partially detached service with several police departments.
In 2011, Mr. Ford became president and a board member of the R.D. Ford Foundation, a foundation in the name of his parents who left behind 40 percent of their assets to charity. As executor of their will and trust, Mr. Ford created the foundation in order to extend the opportunity to provide to charitable institutions for a longer period. Looking to the future, Mr. Ford is writing a book on the legacy of his grandfather, who was an important figure in the Philippine constabulary after the Spanish American War. He hopes to publish the book and continue to work with the family foundation for years to come.
