Throughout his career, he has found success working for an engineering consulting firm in Mattoon, Illinois as well as a consulting business owner in Lafayette, Indiana, a safety engineer for Liberty Mutual Group, a civil engineer and soil engineer for Soils Engineering Service, and a teacher on environment, safety, and OSHA-training for multiple companies in St. Louis, Missouri. Involved in a turnkey construction project for Holcim Company in partnership with Washington Group International and Alberici Constructors, he advanced from a safety engineer to a regional industrial hygienist with the Argonaut Insurance Company. Likewise, Mr. Shookman previously served as an industrial hygienist for British Petroleum in Arkansas, Shell plc in Los Angeles, the Amico Corporation in Chicago and International Comfort Products.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Shookman pursued an education at Southern Illinois University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1972. After completing graduate coursework in business and engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he obtained a master’s degree in industrial hygiene at the University of Central Missouri. He was additionally certified as a safety professional at the American Society of Safety Professionals. Looking toward the future, Mr. Shookman hopes to enter a well-deserved retirement while ensuring complete control over occupational exposure to metalworking fluid at HYDRO-GEAR.
