LaVoy Golden, Regional Operations Manager at CSX, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in railroad operations management.

Following coursework in communications at Georgia State University in Atlanta from 2008 to 2010, Mr. Golden obtained an associate degree in business administration and management from Columbia Southern University in 2013, where he is currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in project management. In addition, he served in the Georgia National Guard from 2006 to 2012, where he specialized in automated logistics.

As a conductor with the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad from 2011 to 2012, Mr. Golden oversaw the movement of rail cars, signal crew members for movement of the engine or train while using hand, flag or radio signals to indicate the start, stop, or release of air brakes. His responsibilities also included operating track switches, preparing daily reports, inspected train equipment while moving and stationary, maintained awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety and ensured compliance with all train orders, signals, and railroad rules and regulations for safety under operations by the Federal Railroad Administration. 

After joining the leading railroad CSX Transportation Intermodal in 2012, Mr. Golden excelled from 2012 to 2015 as a conductor and a trainmaster, in which he supervised railroad terminals and kept trains running on time and supervised employees for loading and unloading trains efficiently and safety. Since 2016, he has provided superior service as a regional operations manager, in which he collaborates with terminal team and contractors to ensure all intermodal equipment is in service and available for use; coordinates efficient loading of all outbound freight and ensures on-time releases of outbound trains; assists terminal manager in determining sufficient staffing levels and establish schedules to maximize the use of clerical and contract employees; and ensures all CSX intermodal safety and environmental policies are adhered to by all employees and contractors.

In what he considers to be a career highlight, Mr. Golden was honored with Railway Age Top 25 Under 40 award in 2022. In addition, he captured the CSX 4th Quarter Professionalism Award in 2019 and Dale Carnegie Highest Achievement Award in 2017. To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, he maintains affiliations with the African American Inclusion Group with CSX, the Columbia Southern Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha and the Project Management Institute.  

Mr. Golden attributes his success to the support of his family and the people he works with. Since becoming part of management at CSX, he has taken pride in helping the company realize more than $200,000,000 in productive gains in the last five years. In the coming years, his goal is to be the first African American chief executive officer of a class-one railroad. Likewise, Mr. Golden intends to sit on company boards and help make decisions that are going to shape and form the way they are doing business in the future.
