Joseph Onajide, Retired Department Head of News Media at PG Publishing Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in media and communications.
With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Onajide is currently retired, having excelled as the head of the Department of News Media for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, part of PG Publishing Co., between 1986 and 2017. During this time, he was additionally active as an economic development representative with the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce between 1993 and 1997. Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Onajide pursued an education at La Roche University, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic communications in 1982.
Driven by his Christian faith and his humility, Mr. Onajide attributes his success to his attitude about, and his outlook on, life. Noted as the first African-American department head at PG Publishing Co., he recalls experiencing discrimination in the workplace but his hard work and focus propelled him toward success. He was also able to adapt within his industry, refining his skill set through continued learning in the early 1990s when his company began transitioning from analog to digital. Furthermore, Mr. Onajide is proud to have been featured in a 1997 newspaper, Shining Lights on Africa, which lauded his ability to apply The Bible to his life.
