Charles “Chuck” R. Kerns, the retired vice chairman at Blumfield Township Planning Commission, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of public service.

Long dedicated to volunteerism, Mr. Kerns has distinguished himself through public service to the local government of Saginaw County throughout much of his career. In addition to his most recent role as the vice chairman of the Blumfield Township Planning Commission, from which he retired in 2024, Mr. Kerns previously contributed as the executive board chairman of the 911 Communications Authority, and as a consultant to the Tri-County Contractors Association. Proud to have held numerous roles in promoting safety on behalf of his community, Mr. Kerns served throughout the 2000s as a supervisor to the Blumfield Township Board from 2006 to 2008, and as the owner of his own consulting from in Reese, Michigan, between 2003 and 2007. 

Working as a laborer and district equipment operator in Saginaw County from 1965 to 1984, during which time he also served for many decades as a safety training officer for the Saginaw County Road Commission, Mr. Kerns would later be elected as the supervisor of Blumfield Township in 1992, and hold that post until 2000. Throughout this period, he also sat as secretary of the local board of review. Holding a great enthusiasm for civic endeavors, he has also volunteered extensively on behalf of his local fire department as a lieutenant and at his local Trinity Lutheran Church as an elder and president of the men’s club. 

Well-qualified in his various areas of expertise, Mr. Kerns was certified as a medical first responder by the Michigan Department of Public Health in 1999, and was further licensed to participate in hazardous materials operations, firefighting, and conduct arson investigations by the Fire Fighter Training Council. He has also participated in various trauma care education and OSHA blood pathogen seminars. Years earlier, he served as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969, during which time he was deployed abroad to Vietnam. 

Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Kerns is particularly gratified to have worked in public service for more than 35 years, and to have excelled despite lacking a college education. Looking toward the future, he aspires to enjoy his well-deserved retirement and indulge in favored pastimes, such as fishing and spending time with his wife.
