With more than 10 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Mekus has excelled as the co-owner of Mekus Tanager since 2018. Likewise, he has been active as a business development manager and special projects manager with Mekus Tanager since 2013. Mr. Mekus previously worked as a special projects coordinator with Mekus Tanager between 2011 and 2013.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Mekus pursued an education at the University of Illinois, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in political science in 2011. In addition to this accomplishment, he completed coursework at Austin Community College and participated in the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at the University of Colorado. Prior to beginning his civilian career, Mr. Mekus served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve between 2008 and 2014.
Beyond his primary responsibilities in the field, Mr. Mekus has been affiliated with the International Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Home Association. He has also been involved with his local Catholic Parish and Yacht Club as a volunteer in his spare time. As a testament to his exceptional efforts, Mr. Mekus was notably presented with the Best Religious Structure Award in 2019.
Mr. Mekus was drawn to his field by the encouragement of his parents, who established Mekus Tanager in 1984 and recruited him to help with the business once he reached adulthood. His role with the company continued to grow over the years until he became a minority owner, having acquired 49% of Mekus Tanager. Among the many highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud of providing clients with design solutions that are tailored to their unique vision, learning what separates them as to essentially create a bespoke design for each and every project. Looking toward the future, Mr. Mekus hopes to continue thriving with Mekus Tanager while providing for his employees and their families as well as using his talents to help people heal and receive closure.
