Mary C. Dougherty, the executive director at the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the construction industry.
Driven to excel in advocacy, networking, education and community service, Ms. Dougherty has distinguished herself as the executive director of the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange (GCBX), a trade association for commercial contractors in the Florida counties of Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte. In this capacity, she represents the interests of individual members and their families, as well as managing the organization as a whole. Throughout the course of her tenure, she is most proud to have cultivated an affinity for navigating local bureaucratic processes, as well as lobbying in both Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. Prior to her current role, Ms. Dougherty served in a similar role at the Manatee Homebuilders Association, and as an administrator in Desoto County.
Outside of her primary career endeavors, Ms. Dougherty serves on the board of trustees for the HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital. She is also the board chairperson of Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, and a past president of the Board of Teen Court Sarasota. Well-regarded for her numerous accomplishments, she was a recipient of the Women Who Roar accolade by SRQ Magazine, and was listed among the 50 Most Influential People in Manatee County. Additionally, she earned a Jack Beyer Lifetime Achievement Award, and was hailed as Volunteer of the Year by the Sarasota Conservation Foundation. In accounting for her success, Ms. Dougherty credits the influence of her family, who have all inspired her in a myriad of ways. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue focusing on sound public policy and serving as a mentor to the next generation, whom she hopes to encourage to seek rewarding careers in the commercial contracting industry in their own right.
