Stephen Lee Harvey, MA, RPA, Senior Archaeologist at PanGIS, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in archaeology.
With 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Harvey has excelled as a senior archaeologist with PanGIS Inc. since 2023 and a self-employed cultural resource management consultant since 2022. Prior to these positions, he was active as an assistant base archaeologist with Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton from 2005 to 2007, a heritage and tribal relations program manager for the Cleveland National Forest with the U.S. Forest Service from 2007 to 2015, and a senior archaeologist with ASM Affiliates Inc. from 2015 to 2022. Between 1998 and 2005, he served as an archaeologist and principal investigator for Environmental and Engineering Management LLC (E2M). Mr. Harvey began his career as a member of the archaeological survey and excavation field staff with the Independent Cultural Resource Contractor from 1993 to 1998.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Harvey pursued an education at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in social sciences in 1991. He subsequently concluded his studies at San Diego State University, from which he earned a Master of Arts in anthropology with an emphasis on archaeology in 2001. Garnering his registration as a professional archaeologist in 2001, Mr. Harvey was distinguished as a principal investigator with a California Cultural Resource Use Permit from the Bureau of Land Management of the U.S. Department of the Interior in 2017.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Harvey has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his field. Dedicated to his community, he has contributed to his local historical society, homeless charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, and veterans motorcycle clubs and activities. He was also appointed to the anthropology alumni advisory board for the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, from 2016 to 2021. Mr. Harvey found success with multiple organizations in his areas of expertise, including the San Diego County Archeological Society, The Register of Professional Archeologists, The San Diego Archeological Center, and The Society for California Archeology, the latter of which recruited him as a speaker and presenter for meetings and conferences.
Mr. Harvey attributes his success to his parents, as his late mother, Barbara Harvey, was a leader in early childhood education and his father was an accomplished high school English teacher for 35 years. He has additionally been inspired by the unwavering support of his wife and the guidance of his mentor at Camp Pendleton, Stanley Berryman. Among the highlights of his career, he is incredibly proud to have worked closely with tribes as the regulations require a certain amount of consultations with tribal entities on federal land projects, which enabled him to become acquainted with tribal people in the area. Looking toward the future, Mr. Harvey hopes to establish a motorcycle repair and production shop.
