Outside of his work at MidCoast Medical, Mr. Smith serves as the owner of RedSmith Genetics, a ranching operation specializing in embryonic transfer, artificial insemination and early pregnancy checks for cattle and horses. Established in 2018, RedSmith Genetics has experienced healthy expansion ever since, forging profitable partnerships with a number of clients and exemplifying the best practices in progressive breeding techniques for Brahman and Tarentaise cattle.
Beginning his career on Wall Street, Mr. Smith earned distinction in the investment banking industry in New York, Boston and Dallas. He also exhibited his entrepreneurial skills in San Antonio, where he purchased several businesses before returning to his hometown of Llano. At the time, however, the local hospital was on the verge of shutting down, prompting Mr. Smith to gather a team with the objective of saving the facility. With his vast experience in finance, manufacturing and management, he was able to reverse the hospital’s fortunes and turn a significant profit. In addition, he established a local hospital foundation that has been instrumental in raising nearly three-quarters of $1 million in local donations, which has been used to buy equipment and keep the hospital running. Mr. Smith’s contributions have been invaluable to the community and the hospital’s success.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Smith aspires to actively participate in the construction of a brand-new hospital that caters to the needs of the local community.
