With over 20 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Deem has excelled as an environmental specialist at McKnight & Associates since 2020. She began her career as an environmental consultant at Ecology and Environment, Inc. from 2002 to 2005. She worked as an environmental manager from 2005 to 2017 before transitioning to the role of project engineer at Geosyntec Consultants in 2017. She established herself as vice president at Global Fuel, LLC from 2017 to 2020. She continued her career as an independent environmental specialist in 2020.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Deem pursued an education at the University of Colorado Boulder where she earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1998. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, graduating with a master’s degree in environmental health engineering in 2002.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Deem has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She volunteered at her community’s food bank and with various cleanup projects. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Alaska Chadux̂ Network, an oil spill response organization.
Ms. Deem is proud of starting a job in a male-dominated field with very narrow responsibilities, where she was the youngest on the team. Despite facing a great deal of resistance, particularly when it came to environmentally friendly improvements, she is proud of how far she was able to push and the innovations she was able to initiate.
